Trump says he has 'absolute right' to share information with Russian Federation

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows President Donald Trump meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington Wednesday

They said the information, which had been provided by a United States partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement, was considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted, even within the U.S. government.

For months, US allies have anxiously wondered if President Donald Trump could be trusted with some of the world's most sensitive national security secrets. The fact that USA intel sources are talking so openly to the free and independent press is alarming proof that the adults in government know this man-child is out of control and badly in need of a binky.

McMcaster did not deny that Trump discussed classified information.

McMaster pushed back on the reports, disputing the "premise" of the Washington Post story that Trump's comments jeopardized an intelligence source. McMaster maintained that "what the president shared was wholly appropriate".

A European country has reportedly said it may stop sharing intelligence with the United States, if it transpires Donald Trump provided classified information to Russian Federation. "I think national security is put at risk by this leak and leaks like this".

He cast some of Trump's revelations as information that was available from publicly available "open-source reporting" and added that the president did not know the precise source of the intelligence he had shared, suggesting that Trump could not have compromised confidential sources.

"Fox News' report cited "a federal investigator who reviewed an FBI forensic report. detailing the contents of Rich's computer" who claimed "[Rich] made contact with WikiLeaks through Gavin MacFadyen, a now-deceased American investigative reporter, documentary filmmaker, and director of WikiLeaks who was living in London at the time". The disclosures late on Monday roiled the administration as it struggled to move past the backlash over Trump's abrupt firing on May 9 of FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating potential ties between Russian Federation and Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

The visit was fraught with bad optics, and Kislyak's attendance - only confirmed by photos from Russian state media - was especially notable because he has been at the center of numerous Trump administration's controversies involving Russia. "The president only discussed the common threats that both countries faced".

"The President, by revealing this to the Russians, has lost control of this information".

Trump claims he's been hunting for intelligence 'leakers'
Trump's tweets seem to counter the message White House officials had been giving reporters just hours earlier. The Intelligence was reportedly regarding the Islamic State and a threat involving laptops on airplanes.

Trump himself claimed the authority to share "facts pertaining to terrorism" and airline safety with Russian Federation, saying in a pair of tweets he has "an absolute right" as president to do so. He's set to depart on Friday, traveling to Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Vatican, then attending a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meeting in Brussels, Belgium, and a G7 meeting in Italy.

White House officials denied the story in several statements, including a 45-second, on-camera statement delivered by Trump's national security adviser H.R. McMaster.

"Given the gravity of the matter, we need to be able to quickly assess whether or not this report is true and what exactly was said", Schumer said, speaking on the Senate floor amid reports that Trump disclosed intelligence information to senior Russian officials last week. Trump repeatedly assailed his Democratic rival in the presidential election, Hillary Clinton, for her handling of classified information by email while she was secretary of state.

As I noted late Monday, McMaster's denial wasn't really a full denial, in that he didn't quibble with actual details in the story.

Which brings us, yet again, to the most critical question of all: What will it take to get this guy gone?

"The president in no way undermined sources or methods in the course of this conversation", he said.

None of that explains why the White House was reaching out to the CIA and National Security Agency to let them know what the president had revealed. "The Senate Intelligence Committee should be briefed on this important issue immediately".

Gallagher expressed alarm over the possibility that Trump broke the trust of a key partner by sharing information obtained by that partner without permission. He also declined to say whether the White House would share transcripts of Trump's meeting with Lavrov with politicians who have asked for them. He's expected to be warmly received by Arab allies in Saudi Arabia, who welcomed his decision to launch missiles against a Syrian air base following a chemical weapons attack, and in Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu views Trump as more favorable to his interests than former President Barack Obama.
