India rips up Pak at ICJ

India argued that immediate steps must be taken to stop Pakistan from carrying out the death sentence of former Indian naval officer Jadhav. "Serious allegations have been made against a member state of the United Nations and not one jot of evidence has been provided by India", he said and described India's allegations that Mr. Jadhav had been kidnapped in Iran as "far fetched". "However, there is an apprehension that this being will do what it wants, despite all our best efforts".

Later, after the hearings, Salve told a TV channel that the ICJ denying permission to Pakistan to play the "confessional" video was a setback to it.

Ahead of Pakistan's session in the afternoon, speculation centred on whether it would be able air the video of Mr. Jadhav's alleged confession, already available online.

■ International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague begins hearing on Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav's death sentence by Pakistan.

Pakistan could go ahead with the execution, making the present situation grave and urgent, and hence India has requested for the ICJ's intervention.

India had appealed against the death sentence on May 8 alleging violation of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by Pakistan after its 16 requests for consular access were denied. Pak's agent Dr. Mohammad Faisal, who is Director General of South Asia and SAARC, played the terror card saying his country has been a victim of terrorism while accusing Jadhav to be an Indian spy out there to carry out more terror strikes in Pak.

Pakistan did not even respond to Jadhav's mother's pleas to see her son, India told the court.

In a similar dispute over the Vienna Convention in 1999, the ICJ ordered the United States not to execute a German national who did not get proper consular assistance, but the man was put to death regardless.

Global Hack Attack Hits Thousands Of Computers
Experts are advising infected users not to pay the ransom because it is unlikely they will get their files back. It's hard to blame Microsoft , Litan said, since it issued fixes and generally did what it should.

Mr. Salve accused Pakistan of "egregious violations of the Vienna convention", right from Mr. Jadhav's arrest in March 2016.

Salve cited the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and how it recognises nobody can be arbitrarily deprived of their lives, how everyone is entitled to a fair hearing, and the right to a legal counsel of his own choosing.

Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh, who died in a Pakistan jail in 2013, on Monday said Pakistan does not have the courage to announce the punishment of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav this soon, adding the intentions of Islamabad has been exposed in front of the world.

Senior Pakistani government officials stated that the incarcerated Jadhav's confession is the "crux" of Islamabad's case, Geo News reported.

Following India's arguments, Pakistan, in its submission before the UN's highest judicial body, said India's application on Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and subversive activities last month, was "unnecessary and misconceived" and must be dismissed. "Jadhav's parents have applied for visa to travel to Pakistan which has fallen on deaf ears". He added India had not been given the copy of the charges filed against Jadhav.

Pakistan completed its presentation in under 50 minutes, while India forcefully argued the matter for the stipulated 90 minutes.

Earlier in the day, India and Pakistan presented their case over the crucial issue at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). "The basic rights of Jadhav were thrown to the winds", he said. His sentencing has become the latest flashpoint in India-Pakistan ties.

Pakistan said Jadhav had a 150-day period to seek clemency and could challenge his sentence in the high court. No connection with government. He added that questions over the "palpably false passport" on which Mr. Jadhav was arrested, allegedly in Balochistan, required further explanation.
