No second spike in cyber attacks is "encouraging"-British minister"

The government's computer emergency response team is urging people to keep their computer software up-to-date

The best way to make sure your personal files are never stolen from would-be attackers is to keep everything backed up on an external hard drive that's not connected to the internet.

European governments and companies appeared early Monday to have avoided further fallout from a crippling global cyberattack, the police agency Europol said. Some staff had been forced to revert to pen and paper and use their own mobiles after the attack affected key systems, including telephones.

Even when it stopped routinely supporting Windows XP, Microsoft continued to offer support for organisations still using the operating system - for a fee.

The "ransomware" attack is estimated by security researchers to have affected 100 countries, with 45,000 individual attacks, and has caused a major headache for many hospitals across the UK.

After locking down the files, "WannaCry" pops open a window demanding the user to pay an initial ransom of around 300 USA dollars worth of Bitcoin to regain control of their computer. But he also said the incident was a "wake-up call" for governments.

In the world of ransomware, that was "unheard of six months ago", Levy said.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt confirmed there had not been a second wave of attacks on NHS trusts and said it was "encouraging" that the level of criminal activity was at "the lower end of the range" anticipated.

The IT team worked around the clock to ensure that the Trust's 350 servers were back on as quickly as possible at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven in order to ensure minimal disruption to patient care.

Hamilton Wins the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix
Spaniard Carlos Sainz came 8th, but placed 7th, ahead of Russian Daniil Kvyat of Toro Rosso and Romain Grosjean of Haas. Hamilton said he had no problem with the Ferrari driver despite being forced off track as they battled for the lead.

"The case is a test of the cyber security defending system in China".

Hitachi: The Japanese electronics firm said Monday that its computer systems have been experiencing problems since the weekend, including not being able to send and receive emails or open attached files.

The ransomware that hit the NHS in England and Scotland, known as Wanna Decryptor or WannaCry, infected hundreds of thousands of machines.

Spanish telecom company Telefónica was also hit with the ransomware.

"Clearly patients have been inconvenienced and we apologise to them for that but we believe the public do understand the external factors at work here. We will continue to work with affected (organizations) to confirm this", the agency said.

A spokesperson for the organisation told Business Insider: "NHS Digital issued a targeted update on a secure portal accessible to NHS staff on April 25, and then via a bulletin to more than 10,000 security and IT professionals on April 27 to alert them to this specific issue".

"Windows XP is "not a good platform" for ensuring critical data is secure", said Amber Rudd, home secretary for the United Kingdom, according to BBC News.
