Uber really wants to be your one-stop transit app

Town of Innisfil

Uber has announced a new app integration with Transit, enabling it to offer transportation options for public transport systems like local trains and buses.

The update should do well for those living in big cities, like San Francisco and NY, and will keep travelers from switching from app to app while traveling.

Uber is updating its Android app today to begin showing departure times for busses and trains that are nearby where a passenger is getting dropped off. Uber wait times are already displayed on Transit's feeds, so in theory, someone could hail a ride using Transit and then return to the app after their trip is completed. The new integration is available in close to 50 cities as of Tuesday, according to a press release put up by Uber.

The Uber app refreshes departure times regularly so users are up-to-date.

By tapping on a certain departure, riders will be taken from the Uber app to the Transit app for A-to-B directions, service disruption information and more details. Plus it's often more cost efficient to use a variety of transit options rather than owning a vehicle.

It appears Michigan-Ohio State will move to Fox in 2017
But with the conference's new television rights deal coming into effect for the 2017 season, it looks like the Penn State vs. Other notable games there include Penn State-Ohio State, Notre Dame-Michigan State, Oklahoma-Oklahoma State, and Texas-USC.

Better connected cities, where people can easily access all neighborhoods including areas underserved by transit. If it's going to create an viable alternative to owning a vehicle, that means acknowledging that riders can't (or just won't) always use its service for the entire length of a trip.

Reduced traffic and parking because public transit and carpooling can mean fewer cars on the road and less congestion.

Uber hasn't given any indication as to when this feature may be landing on iOS, but it does note that it's arriving on Android "to start" with, which suggests it will be expanding to iOS at a later date.

Uber says the app integration comes free to both companies. These include places like New York City, Buffalo, Boston, Atlanta, San Diego, Tampa Bay Area, Houston, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Washington DC, Dallas, Los Angeles, and more.
