Erdogan's bodyguards in violent clash with protesters in Washington, leaving nine injured

Donald Trump White House National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and FBI Director James Comey

Nine people were injured and taken to a local hospital during the incident.

It was evident that there will be a change in stance as President Trump during joint press conference equated PKK with ISIS and assured President Erdogan of USA support of fighting against terrorism.

"Violence is never an appropriate response to free speech, and we support the rights of people everywhere to free expression and peaceful protest", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said. US officials also confirmed to NBC News that Erdogan's bodyguards beat protesters.

Erdogan visited the White House earlier in the day, where President Donald Trump gave him a warm welcome.

Demonstrator Flint Arthur, from Baltimore, told CNN: "We are protesting [Mr Erdogan's] policies in Turkey, in Syria and in Iraq".

Ford, like many of its rivals, faces mounting concern about its ability to weather a potential downturn in the global auto market. The company says it will release more details to employees in June and expects the departures to be done by September.

The Turkish Embassy released a statement late Wednesday, calling the melee an act of "self-defence" after members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party provoked people there to see President Erdogan. "They stopped us for a few minutes ... but we still stayed and continued to protest Erdogan's tyrannical regime".

Both presidents also led a luncheon where Turkish and American delegations discussed pending issues, especially the U.S.' decision to directly arm terror group PKK's Syrian armed affiliate the People's Protection Units (YPG).

Trump said Tuesday that the US would ensure the PKK has "no safe quarter". The US President had promised to strengthen strained ties despite Erdogan's objections to the US arming of Kurdish fighters.

He also voiced appreciation for Turkey's leadership "in seeking an end to the horrific killing in Syria". While Erdogan called for the extradition of a Pennsylvania-based cleric he blames for a failed coup in Turkey last summer, there was little tension. Turkey has been a partner in the US-led coalition against Islamic State forces, although the relationship between the two nations is now strained.

The expert noted that following four months of intensive US-Turkish negotiations over the matter, the US administration has not yet approved the Turkish request.

"Steps to be taken in the fields of economy, trade, and defence were evaluated, along with detailed discussions on the fight with terrorist organisations, including the PKK and Daesh", Turkey's presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said after the meeting.
