Buccaneers sign Fitzpatrick to back up Winston

Ryan Fitzpatrick

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Friday that they have signed Ryan Fitzpatrick as a backup to quarterback Jameis Winston. Quarterback Sean Renfree was waived to make room on the roster for Fitzpatrick.

With no starting jobs open, Fitzpatrick had to take what he could get on the open market, and the 34-year old moves to his seventh team in his well-traveled 13-year career. In 2016, he completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 2,710 yards, with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

The Bucs are the seventh National Football League team for the 34-year-old Fitzpatrick.

The Rams drafted Fitzpatrick in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Harvard.

Even though he's provided glimpses of starting-caliber play over the past two seasons, Fitzpatrick's erratic tendencies have made him a liability as a dropback passer.

Donald Trump says he fired James Comey because he was 'unpopular'
Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., said that Rosenstein knew before making his recommendation to Trump that the president would fire Comey. Curbelo urged the creation of a select committee to investigate possible ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

After playing sparingly in his first three seasons, Fitzpatrick got his first extended opportunity to start with the Bengals in 2008. He became a free agent following the season and signed a three-year deal with the Bills, where he took over as the starter for an injured Trent Edwards at midseason.

Among the 60 wide receivers to see at least 80 targets last season, Evans had the fifth-most Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) per target while Jackson came in 16th.

Ryan Fitzpatrick grabbed a chair in this offseason's game of quarterback musical chairs.

Winston, the first overall pick in the 2015 draft, has started all 32 games the past two seasons, throwing 50 touchdown passes in that span. They eventually agreed to a one-year deal, and Fitzpatrick proved it was in fact a flash in the pan year.
