EU Parliament Denounces Israeli Settlements Law In The West Bank

A Palestinian protester has been killed during a clash in the northern West Bank, and an Associated Press photographer was shot and wounded while covering the unrest.

A second was shot by a settler on Thursday after his auto was pummeled by rocks and projectiles driving through a large demonstration near Harawa, claiming he was "about to be lynched" by the Palestinian protesters.

"Israeli authorities should not allow a man who by his own admission shot at a crowd, injuring a journalist and killing a young man, to rest comfortably at home, unmolested by police", Sherif Mansour said. The Palestinian rock thrower also was detained.

Following the fatal shooting, the Israeli assailants' vehicle struck an ambulance, and rammed three Palestinians, causing mild wounds.

Hundreds of Palestinians clashes with Israeli security forces across the West Bank and Gaza, in a gesture of support for a hunger strike of Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.

Security Council May Meet at Request of Tokyo, Washington
Russia's defence ministry later said the missile landed about 500 kilometres from its territory and posed no threat. He urged other world leaders to "stop intimidating North Korea and find a peaceful solution to the problem".

The UN's Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process called Thursday for an urgent resolution to the ongoing hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Led by jailed resistance icon Marwan Barghouti, more than 1,500 Palestinian prisoners began an open-ended hunger strike on April 17 to demand better conditions. We urge the rest of the worldwide community also to speak up to support the demands of Palestinian prisoners and to insist that Israel immediately enters into serious dialogue with the prisoners about their demands before it is too late.

The killed Palestinian was identified by the Palestinian Maan news agency as Muataz Hussein Hilal Bani Shamsa, 23, from the Nablus-area village of Beita. One May 12, the soldiers fatally shot Saba' Nidal Obeid, 20, from Salfit, after the army assaulted nonviolent protesters in Nabi Saleh village, west of Ramallah.

Palestinians say it stems from anger over decades of Israeli rule in territory they claim for their state.
