Ex-US Rep. Anthony Weiner to plead guilty in sexting case

Anthony Weiner leaves federal court Friday in New York. Weiner pleaded guilty to a charge of transmitting sexual material to a minor and could get years in prison

Former U.S. Congressman Anthony Weiner was expected to plead guilty in federal court in NY on Friday, months after U.S. prosecutors opened an investigation into his alleged "sexting" with a 15-year-old North Carolina girl that eventually played a role in the U.S. presidential election. "Weiner's conduct was not only reprehensible, but a federal crime, one for which he is now convicted and will be sentenced".

As part of the plea agreement, he will have to comply with the Sex Offender Registry and Notification Act.

"I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse", the former Democratic congressman said.

Weiner, once considered a rising star in the Democratic Party, had represented his congressional district in Brooklyn and Queens for nearly 12 years before he stepped down in 2011 after admitting to sending sexually explicit social media messages and texts to women.

CNN, citing law enforcement officials, reported last September that prosecutors in the office of then-US Attorney Preet Bharara issued a subpoena for Weiner's cell phone and other records as part of an investigation into alleged "sexting" with a purportedly underage girl.

The government is seeking a term of 21 months to 27 months in jail on the single count of transferring obscene material to a minor.

Charles Kayonga has praised the Belt and Road initiative as a platform for Africa to grow with the rest of the world. He added: "We have every reason to be confident in the future of the Belt and Road.

The FBI began investigating Weiner in September after the 15-year-old from North Carolina told the Daily Mail she and Weiner had exchanged lewd messages for several months.

The former congressman is expected to enter the plea Friday. That investigation is what prompted the final review in October 2016 of Hillary Clinton's private server, ABC News reported previous year.

Weiner, the estranged husband of Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, allegedly sent pornographic videos and made requests that the girl be nude and masturbate, the sources said.

On Nov. 6, two days before the election, Comey sent a second letter to Congress saying the Federal Bureau of Investigation had reviewed the emails on Weiner's laptop.

Comey testified on May 3 that it makes him "mildly nauseous" that the letters to Congress could have changed the election outcome, NPR reported, but he stood by that he believes he did the right thing.
