Flynn not complying with Senate Intel Committee's subpoena

"General Flynn's attorneys have not yet indicated their intentions regarding the Senate Intelligence Committee's subpoena", Burr said in the statement. Richard Burr, announced that Flynn would not be complying with the Senate's subpoena - although he later walked that back by saying that he'd not yet gotten a "definitive answer" from Flynn's lawyer.

Burr's initial announcement prompted many folks on Twitter to say the move meant that Flynn could end up in jail: contempt of Congress!

The North Carolina senator later clarified his statement, leaving the question of whether Flynn would comply with the subpoena up in the air.

Asked about his opinion of the president now, Flynn reiterated his loyalty to Trump.

The House Intelligence Committee also announced Thursday that it has requested documents from the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation related to Comey's dismissal and any conversations between Trump and the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

The Senate Intelligence Committee's counterterrorism probe took on added significance after President Donald Trump dismissed FBI Director James Comey last week amid allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election. Reuters could not immediately verify the report. In 2008, the House voted to hold White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers in contempt over their refusal to cooperate with an investigation into the mass firings of US attorneys by the administration of George W. Bush.

The committee said it sent a letter requesting material from the FBI and Justice Department related to its ongoing counterintelligence investigation.

The former top national security adviser to the Trump White House was forced out of the position in February after it became known that he did not disclose contact he'd had with Russian diplomat Sergei Kislyak to Vice President Mike Pence.

The top Democrat and Republican on a House oversight committee have said Flynn likely broke federal law by failing to get approval from the USA government to accept foreign payments, including $33,000 in 2015 from RT, Russia's state-sponsored television network.

The committee issued the subpoena for Flynn's records on May 10 after he declined to cooperate with an April 28 request for documents.

"If I were his lawyer, I'd probably be making the argument that if I'm under criminal investigation, you can not force me to compromise myself", Graham said.
