Macron as French President: Lesser of Two Evils

Emmanuel Macron delivers a speech in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris after his election victory that has been cheered by investorsMore

One of Europe's top rabbis welcomes pro-EU centrist Emmanuel Macron's victory in the French presidential election, saying voters sent a "very powerful" message to the country's far-right.

"Macron's victory is... no guarantee that a weakened France will regain the enthusiasm... to get out of the swamp of low growth and high unemployment, '" Schirach, president of the Global Policy Institute and Professor of International Economics at BAU International University, said.

The task, though, may prove tricky for a president who had never run for a political office before and for his fledgling political movement La Republique En Marche (Republic On the Move).

The party's interim president (filling in whilst Le Pen campaigned) Steeve Briois said: "It's opening the doors of the movement to other personalities".

The 39 year old Emmanuel Macron is the President-elect. Macron is already looking the part.

Macron appeared side-by-side with Hollande at the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Paris to commemorate the end of World War II, where Hollande confirmed that his successor would be inaugurated on May 14.

During his campaign, Macron has been advocating for a greater co-operation and integration with the European Union on fiscal and social regulation.

Google digital assistant fails to crack Apple's iPhone ecosystem
Google at its annual developer conference I/O 2017 announced " Android Go " which is a lighter version of Android O. Particularly, Android Go to go on hands with great smartphone experience even on Android devices with 1GB RAM.

Addressing his supporters in the grand courtyard of the Louvre, Macron said he would defend France and Europe. But it will be contesting its first ever election. Macron has promised that half of those candidates will be new to elected politics, as he was before his victory on Sunday. "Let us work in France and Spain for a stable, prosperous and more integrated Europe", Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said in a tweet.

Split 50-50 between men and women, they'll have Macron's example for inspiration: Contesting his first election, he handily beat Le Pen with 66 percent of Sunday's vote and tore up France's political map.

Le Pen offered a radically different vision, proposing to pull France out of the euro, hold a referendum on European Union membership, and impose protectionist trade policies to shield French workers from what she called "savage globalization". The National Front has two lawmakers in the outgoing parliament but hopes for dozens in June.

(Forward!), would finish first in the legislative elections set for June 11 and June 18. The appointment of the Prime Minister will be key.

Mr Wahnicht described the hard exercise of synthesis that awaits the president-elect: "He must have socialist MPs in his parliamentary majority with a right-wing prime minister".

In addition, even if Ms Le Pen was beaten, she achieved an unprecedented score for the National Front.

European Council President Donald Tusk congratulated the French people "for choosing Liberty, Equality and Fraternity over tyranny of fake news". But that is far from guaranteed. Macron can't count on their loyalty.
