The mechanics of the Trump-Russia special counsel

"Well, I respect the move but the entire thing has been a witch hunt", Trump said when asked about the investigation.

The appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel overseeing the federal government's Russian Federation investigation has dramatically raised the legal and political stakes and put Trump's young presidency in risky waters just four months after he was sworn into office.

White House and campaign records may be subpoenaed, and Trump's presidential privilege to keep West Wing conversations private could be challenged.

Trump strongly disagreed. The appointment, he said in a briefing with news anchors, "hurts our country terribly".

Trump's tweets signal his White House - or at least the man in charge - will try to resist Mueller's investigation, meaning the shadow of that probe will now hang over a White House in need of a morale boost.

"They will govern with constant fear of bombshell news being around the corner", said Julian Zelizer, a history professor at Princeton University.

His appointment raises the stakes dramatically on the long-simmering allegations that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 election and had connections with members of the Trump campaign.

Congressional panels have been seeking recordings, transcripts and memos, including the memo Comey is said to have written stating that Trump asked him in February to stop the investigation into the president's fired national security adviser, Mike Flynn.

Controversy is nothing new for Trump. The grand jury hears only one side - the prosecutor's.

Russian Federation achieves 100pct compliance with OPEC deal
Late Tuesday, the American Petroleum Institute, an industry group, said that US stockpiles had risen by 882,000 barrels. Stockpiles have been on the decline for the past six weeks, falling to 520.8 million barrels in the week ended May 5.

"He wanted to make it out as media and Democratic warfare", Brinkley said.

"I think so", said Harris, a former prosecutor. Still, he is not subject to the day-to-day supervision of the Justice Department. Trump later told NBC that he was going to fire Comey no matter what Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions had recommended. (Remember the incidental prosecution of Scooter Libby?) The investigation will likely turn up little to no evidence supporting the collusion conspiracy, but if Mueller doesn't nail somebody for something, leftists will then demand his head. He was impeached by the House, but acquitted by the Senate.

Trump has cast himself throughout the Russian Federation investigation as an aggrieved president who is being mistreated by the media. "It's all the pressures of life in the White House with this weight hanging over you that could bring untold trauma at any point", she said. Daria called the special counsel "second best" compared to the Office of Independent Counsel, but that "ceased to exist in 1999".

Since then, the President had said nearly nothing in public about his legislative agenda, focused instead on firing the FBI Director, and dealing with a growing investigation into the Russian Federation matter.

-Top members of the Senate Judiciary Committee asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to provide any Comey memos and asked the White House to turn over any audio recordings that might exist of conversations with the now-fired director. The stakes are huge.

Unlike a U.S. attorney, a special counsel has more leeway in carrying out a probe.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC told reporters that it appears the FBI investigation is turning into a criminal investigation rather than a counterintelligence probe.

One difference, however: Special counsels get to choose whether they inform the Justice Department what they're up to. Before taking "significant" actions, however, the special counsel must notify the attorney general.
