Former FBI Director James Comey "most definitely" wants to testify before Congress - and wrote other memos in addition to the one claiming President Trump asked him to drop an FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, a source familiar with Comey's thinking told CBS News' Andres Triay.

"And in fact when I made a decision to just do it I said to myself, I said, 'You know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won, ' " Trump said in an interview with NBC's Lester Holt after the dismissal.

The White House initially sought to pin the decision to fire Comey on his handling of the FBI's investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary ClintonHillary Rodham ClintonMueller shouldn't forget to investigate Clinton's Russian Federation ties during Trump probe House Intel panel requests Comey memos Russian Federation tried to take over Pentagon Twitter accounts: report MORE's use of a private email server while secretary of State. 'Because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side that were saying such bad things about Director Comey, ' Trump said.

I cherish the FBI.it is special. all over the world, no matter where you go, the FBI is special. "The FBI has not had that special reputation".

'The FBI has not had that special reputation with what happened in the campaign, what happened with respect to the Clinton campaign, and even you could say, directly or indirectly, with respect to the the much more successful Trump campaign.

Matthew Miller, who served as the DOJ's Director of the Office of Public Affairs under former Attorney General Eric Holder, suggested that Comey may have been building an obstruction of justice case against the president, in an interview with the Washington Post.

"In the light of a very busy news week, a lot of people would like to get to the bottom of a couple of things", said the journalist.
