Dozens of Bloods members arrested in North Carolina gang crackdown

83 United Blood Nation gang members indicted after mass arrests in Charlotte

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the help of state and local law enforcement, arrested almost 100 people across the Charlotte region early Thursday morning in the operation.

Authorities announced Thursday morning that federal and local law enforcement made dozens of arrests in the Charlotte area as part of a massive gang crackdown operation.

Out of the 83 members charged, 10 are not in custody.

"Today's law enforcement action delivered a serious blow to the leadership structure throughout the ranks of this criminal organization", U.S. Attorney Jill Rose said. A number of those indicted are accused of bank fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. The U.S. Department of Justice said more than 600 federal, state and local law enforcement officers carried out the arrest warrants in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida and NY.

There are so many cases to process on Thursday that the courthouse is using three different judges in three different rooms to get through all of them. Members engaged in racketeering activity, including murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, narcotics distribution and firearms possession.

In all, Federal Bureau of Investigation officials said 25 were arrested Thursday in Charlotte; 14 came from Cleveland County, four in Anson County, one in Gaston County and five were picked up in eastern North Carolina.

The indictments include murder charges in the deaths of Jimmy Ray Daniels Jr., Cheeontah Howard and Malik Brown. Teams of agents and officers conducted the roundup of dozens of gang members.

Former Acting Attorney General Dana Boente told reporters that a newly "resolute" U.S. Department of Justice was working "to reclaim the streets".
