"Mosquito bites and the diseases spread by infected mosquitoes are preventable", said Dr. Joe Iser, Chief Health Officer for the Health District. Adults 50 years old and older have the highest risk of severe illness caused by West Nile virus, according to the MDHHS.

There are no human cases that have been detected so far.

West Nile symptoms include high fever, confusion, muscle weakness and a severe headache with more serious effects turning into neurological illnesses such as meningitis and encephalitis.

It could be a bad year for the West Nile Virus in MI.

Many people with the virus will have no symptoms or very mild clinical symptoms of illness, health officials said.

The unidentified man, who is in his 50s, has the "more serious neuroinvasive form" of the illness, according to a statement issued by the Southern Nevada Health District.

PM Modi calls up French President-elect Emmanuel Macron to congratulate him
If Macron's presidency were to follow a similar pathway to his two predecessors, the public mood could turn against him rapidly. President Trump had congratulated President-elect Emmanuel Macron on his victory in the May 7th French presidential election.

People are being warned to take steps to prevent mosquito bites, which can transmit the virus.

Last year, the state says there were 43 serious illnesses and three deaths related to West Nile virus in MI.

Replace any window and door screens that have holes or are not fitted properly.

Eisner says the severity of the disease depends on the health and proliferation of the mosquito population and the National Weather Service is predicting the kind of summer that would be mosquito-friendly in MI. Those species include crows, blue jays and ravens.

Although it's the first time in 10 years West Nile virus has been found in birds this early in the year, Eisner said it's important to note the detection process largely relies on the public to report dead birds for testing.

Dallas County Mosquito Lab has notified the Health Division that a West Nile Virus (WNV) positive mosquito trap has been identified in Mesquite 75149.
