Paul Ryan isn't done defending Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin listens to a question at a joint news conference with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni at the Bo

Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan on Wednesday urged against jumping to conclusions in the wake of a report that President Trump earlier this year asked then-FBI Director James Comey to end the probe of former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

"I'm sure we're going to want to hear from Comey", said Ryan, adding that "our job is to be responsible, sober and focused only on gathering the facts".

The House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for all documents prepared by Comey regarding his conversations with Trump.

He said the House will pursue its investigation "regardless of which party is in the White House". Less than 24 hours after news of the Comey memo broke thanks to the New York Times, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) dismissed it as "speculation and innuendo" and placed the blame on the people he sees as trying to harm the president, rather than Donald Trump himself.

"A lot of people have said that the tax reform is in danger because of President Trump's troubles".

Putin dismissed the USA politicians, whom he did not identify, as either being "stupid" or "dangerous and unscrupulous" who are wittingly "causing the damage to their own country". When that ended, Trump asked everyone to leave except Comey, and he eventually turned the conversation to Flynn. The administration spent the first half of Tuesday defending Trump's disclosure of classified information to senior Russian officials.

House Republicans said they didn't spend much time, if any, discussing the events at the White House. In addition Trump is facing pointed questions about his discussions with Russian diplomats during which Trump is reported to have disclosed classified information.

Speaking to Russian news agencies on Wednesday Yuri Ushakov, an aide to President Vladimir Putin, would not comment the contents of last week's talks among Trump, Lavrov and Kislyak. Trump himself said he had "an absolute right" as president to share "facts pertaining to terrorism" and airline safety with Russian Federation. The president fired Mr Comey not three months later.
