San Diego County unemployment hits lowest point in almost 11 years

Growth in the tourism industry in April ahead of the summer season was one of the biggest factors lowering the rate, adding 2,100 jobs.

Next door in Berkeley County, the unemployment rate mirrored Dorchester County in April. Nearly 100,000 extra workers joined the labor force either after becoming adults, resuming their job search after a period on the sidelines or moving to North Carolina. The year-ago unemployment rate in Santa Rosa County was 4.2 percent. Its March 2017 unemployment rate was 6.7 percent. There were 5,800 looking for work in April compared to 6,700 in March, according to the state. The next lowest is almost a full percentage point lower than New Mexico's-Louisiana at 5.8 percent (Washington D.C. had an unemployment rate of 5.9 percent).

The EDD reported that during the month, the construction sector gained 1,500 jobs, while hotels and restaurants added 1,300 positions.

"I was pleased to see that Arkansas' unemployment rate has fallen to an all-time low for the fourth time in as many months", Gov. Hutchinson wrote in a statement releaseed to the media.

The number of people actively participating in the labor force increased 12,100 over the month to 2,945,300 and the number of people reporting themselves as employed increased 19,500 to 2,876,900. "But we have more work to do in helping to match the unemployed with the job openings across the state".

Unemployment was relatively low for all of North Florida.

"More and more people are feeling confident about the economy and are entering the workforce to take advantage of the opportunities available to them as businesses expand and grow here", Stanton said.

Nonfarm employment has increased by 57,000 jobs throughout the year, with the largest increases occurring in the trade/transportation/utilities, professional/business services, and education/health services.
