Police handling hospital bomb investigation

Police investigators work at the lobby of Phramongkutklao Hospital a military-owned hospital that is also open

Investigators found remnants of batteries, wires and nails at the scene, authorities said.

"It was a bomb. We found the pieces that were used to make the bomb", Kamthorn Aucharoen, commander of the police's explosive ordnance team, told Reuters, adding it was not clear who was behind the attack.

"Right now, authorities are checking out closed circuit cameras".

Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said 24 people were wounded. Mostd were hit by flying glass, the military's national security unit said.

Army chief Chalermchai Sittisart blamed groups opposed to the junta.

Winthai said officials would coordinate with police to review security around the country.

Since the coup, at least six explosions have occurred in the Thai capital.

She later changed to a huge, curly black 'do — and wore a black sheer bodysuit and leather jacket for "If I Could Turn Back Time". However, as it turned out, there was no joint performance from the two at the just concluded event.

Three years after military leaders overthrew a democratically elected government in Thailand, the country is sputtering economically, suppressing political freedom and still the site of sporadic but unnerving unrest.

Protest and political gatherings are banned while dissidents have been rounded up on charges of sedition or breaching junta orders, or under draconian royal defamation legislation.

"All of this was conducted with the goal of creating disorder to the administrative work of the government and NCPO", he said, referring to the National Council for Peace and Order, the official name of the ruling junta.

But Thailand has been rocked by attacks, including a series of explosions past year at popular beach locations, which cast a shadow over Thailand's safety credentials.

The beach attacks came a day after Thais voted overwhelmingly to accept a military-backed constitution that critics say will entrench military power. Without firing a shot or spilling any blood, the military staged its second coup in eight years " and its 12th successful putsch since the end of absolute monarchy in 1932.

The blast comes weeks after a vehicle bomb at a shopping centre in the province of Pattani, near Thailand's border with Malaysia, which wounded 61 people and which authorities blamed on the Muslim insurgents. A bomb exploded in Yala earlier on Monday, wounding military officers.

The one region where daily violence and large bomb blasts persist is the country's "Deep South", where Malay Muslim militants have fought a long insurgency.

It is the third bomb explosion in two months: a blast outside the National Theatre injured two passers-by earlier this month, and another outside the former lottery office injured two workers in April. It was not clear who was behind the bomb.
