The Senate Intelligence Committee subpoenaed two of Michael Flynn's businesses

Former CIA Director John Brennan tesifies on Capitol Hill in Washington

The House committee's subpoenas "will be created to maximize our chance of getting the information that we need", Schiff told reporters at a breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.

Mr Brennan said he delivered a telephone warning to his Russian counterpart, the head of the FSB spy agency, against meddling in August previous year, two months before United States intelligence chiefs went public with their belief that Russia was trying to manipulate the election in Mr Trump's favour.

Citing three current and former American officials, the Times said U.S. intelligence officials collected information last summer showing Russians zeroed in on Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Mr Flynn, a former head of USA military intelligence who was a key Trump campaign adviser.

The FBI is looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible connections between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Jared Kushner is being scrutinised by the FBI as part of the investigation into possible ties between the President's election campaign and Russian Federation.

Kushner, a key White House adviser, had meetings late previous year with Russia's ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, and Russian banker Sergey Gorkov.

The intelligence panels are among five congressional committees looking into the allegations involving links between Russian Federation and Mr Trump's November 8 victory.

Milbank: Trump's cruel budget is just more propaganda
Trump's new budget is based on sustained growth above 3 percent, sharply higher than the expectations of most private economists. How? The budget would eviscerate aid to the poor , and it makes preposterous assumptions about future growth.

Separately, ABC News reported that Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to Trump's presidential campaign, would testify on June 6 before the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee. However, the FBI's investigation covers whether associates of the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian campaign to interfere in the 2016 election.

The White House disputed the New York Times story, insisting that that "the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end an investigation, including any investigation involving Gen. Flynn".

The US department of justice has appointed former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate alleged links between Trump's campaign and Russian operatives.

"The far more practical issue is we're in a Republican Congress", the committee's ranking Democrat said, echoing his party's leadership in Congress.

Former President Barack Obama's Central Intelligence Agency chief John Brennan said he was the first official to notify the USA government of Moscow's alleged attempts to interfere in the 2016 presidential race.

Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) told the media that the lawmakers will use all the options on the table they can to get the documents they need for the investigation. He also referred to past reports that the White House asked allies on Capitol Hill to refute negative press stories about Trump associates' ties to Russian Federation.
