North Korea could be behind ransomware attack

North Korea on Tuesday released a detailed report on the global WannaCry ransomware attack, but kept mum about worldwide suspicions that it might have been behind the destructive hacking.

Investigators might also be able to extract some information about the attacker from a previously hidden internet address connected to WannaCry's "kill switch".

WannaCry also includes software that was stolen from the US National Security Agency [official website] and illegally published online in April. They are investing in new malware programs and in the last eight years, they initiated numerous cyber-attacks upon other industrial companies, media institutions, and financial centers.

A blog post written by the group promised from June to release tools every month to anyone willing to pay for access to some of the tech world's biggest commercial secrets.

According to him, North Korea has been using malicious computer programs to mine bitcoins as early as 2013, which means it is not a novice to the world of digital currency. "More info to come".

There are other surprises, that suggest this is not an ordinary ransomware attack. "We should never underestimate it". The U.S. government has not commented directly on the matter.

Investigators said they had detected code similar to that used by a shadowy cybercrime network implicated in the Sony attack, the Lazarus Group, though they stressed that more investigation was necessary.

Cybersecurity experts around the world are saying that they found circumstantial evidence that could link North Korea to the WannaCry ransomware attack.

"Neel Mehta's discovery is the most significant clue to date regarding the origins of WannaCrypt", Kaspersky Lab added.

Arsenal must stop Hazard in Cup final, says Ramsey
But if he doesn't then you only really have Mertesacker and Holding. It's a risky one for Arsenal if they play three at the back. Shkodran Mustafi is a doubt due to concussion.

"Lazarus Group", that according to Mehta is based in China, was responsible for a major hack on Sony Pictures in 2014 and another on a Bangladeshi bank in 2016.

James Lewis, a cybersecurity expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said US investigators are collecting forensic information - such as internet addresses, samples of malware or information the culprits might have inadvertently left on computers - that could be matched with the handiwork of known hackers.

But the paper did not comment whether the North had suffered the attack.

Several Asian countries have been affected by the malware, although the impact has not been as widespread as some had feared.

"In this case, there is a fragment of the technology that was associated with Lazarus", Clark said. It did not name any of the entities.

"The real situation may be serious".

In the wake of the massive WannaCry ransomware cyberattack, which has now spread to 150 countries, everyone has one common question in mind - who was behind the huge global mayhem?

Taiwan Power Co. said that almost 800 of its computers were affected, although these were used for administration, not for systems involved in electricity generation.
