Donald Trump 'to pull United States out of Paris climate change agreement'

In an unprecedented step, the US broke from the other six nations in a joint statement issued at the summit's conclusion, saying America is reviewing its climate policies while the G-7 members others remain committed to the Paris Agreement.

"Understanding this process", the communique continued, "the heads of state and of government of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom and the presidents of the European Council and of the European Commission reaffirm their strong commitment to swiftly implement the Paris Agreement".

Trump told his associates that he made a decision to pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement on climate change, which sets long-term goals for each nation to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide in order to protect the planet from environmental disaster, local media reported Sunday, citing multiple sources.

America's exit from the Paris Agreement wouldn't invalidate the accord, which still has the support of most of the world, including China, and is likely to proceed without US participation.

Hopefully Trump will follow his fellow leaders on this issue. He hasn't made an official decision yet, but if the president decides to pull out of the Paris Agreement that Obama signed in 2016, it could make things hard for Canada - although it won't stop climate initiatives from going forward, according to a former Canadian diplomat.

The decision whether the leave the Paris deal accord has been among the most fractious of the Trump administration.

But Republicans have slammed the climate deal and Trump joined the chorus when he ran for president.

One of the biggest topics was climate change, but Trump made a decision to leave the fellow leaders hanging, wondering what he would do regarding the global pact on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Kashmir peaceful with restrictions in place
According to the reports, shops, colleges and schools, business establishments and market places remained closed across Kashmir. Though there were few stone-pelting incidents in some areas of the valley on Sunday, the situation remained under control.

The White House did not confirm the reports, while Trump restated that his decision would be announced this week.

Backing out of the climate accord had been a central plank of Trump's campaign and aides have been exploring whether they can adjust the framework of the deal even if they don't opt out entirely.

There were scuffles in Sicily on Saturday as protesters tried break through a police cordon protecting world leaders at this year's G7.

"The whole discussion about climate has been hard, or rather very unsatisfactory", Merkel said after the summit. "I hope they decide in the right way".

Trump called global warming "an expensive hoax" in 2014 and criticized the deal on the campaign trail.

Speaking of uncertainty, in a Face the Nation interview set to air on CBS on Sunday, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis said that he was "quite certain the president is wide open on this issue as he takes in the pros and cons of that accord".

"I haven't asked him", Spicer said.
