United Nations chief says 'absolutely essential' that Paris climate deal implemented

President Donald Trump will follow through on a campaign pledge to pull the United States out of a global pact to fight climate change, a source briefed on the decision told Reuters, a move that promises to deepen a rift with U.S. allies.

"I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!" he tweeted from the summit, having previously called global warming "a hoax".

"The G7 leaders made very clear to President Trump the diplomatic and economic costs of pulling out of the Paris Agreement and failing to act on climate change".World leaders had hoped to put out a statement of consensus on the Paris Agreement which is created to cut global carbon emissions but Mr Trump took to social media to say he would make up his mind next week.At the summit's end, Mr Trump gave no closing press conference, presumably to avoid questions on his son-in-law Jared Kushner's reported plans to set up a secret communications channel with Russian Federation, reported The Guardian.Almost every nation that signed the 2015 agreement, including the six other G-7 members, has agreed to curb greenhouse gas emissions.Under Trump, who once called climate change a "hoax" perpetrated by China and wants to boost the U.S. coal industry, Washington has resisted intense pressure from its partners to commit to respecting the global 2015 accord on curbing carbon emissions.

Trump left the G7 summit in Sicily yesterday without reaffirming his commitment to the accord, while the other six world leaders present did.

It's also been an odd trip full of odd moments.

The pact asks those signed up to the deal to reduce carbon emissions to ensure the global temperature does not rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius per year.

In Brussels, he bashed North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partners for not spending more on defence, shoved the prime minister of Montenegro and renewed his attacks on Germany's trade surplus with the United States.

The settlements notwithstanding, Bernards Township on Tuesday denied that officials acted with discriminatory intentions. The township also pledged to limit the zoning restrictions placed on houses of worship, according to CBS New York .

Ivanka Trump, however, has spent the past several weeks making sure that her father has heard from both sides, according to an administration official familiar with her efforts. The Sierra Club said a United States withdrawal from the Paris deal would be a "historic mistake".

Axios also reported that behind the scenes at the EPA last week, Pruitt "told aides he wanted them to pump the brakes on publicly lobbying for withdrawal from Paris". The choice is between a formal withdrawal that could take three years or leaving the United Nations treaty that the accord is based on, which would be quicker but more extreme, according to Axios. But afterward, leaders said Trump offered few assurances he would uphold commitments to carbon reductions made under the Obama administration. The member countries are: Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, the United States and the UK. Withdrawing would leave the United States aligned only with Russian Federation among the world's industrialized economies in rejecting action to combat climate change.

Finland's Prime Minister Juha Sipila said a United States withdrawal would be a big setback, adding that "we must find partners to continue, because this work must not stop".

Trump told voters on the campaign trail he wanted to scrap agreements "contrary to the national interest", while repeatedly promising to strengthen the coal industry.

The Paris agreement's commitment to curb carbon emissions and limit temperature rise to well below 2 degrees and as close as possible to 1.5 degrees "do not almost go far enough", he said.

Trump had delayed his decision on the Paris Climate Accord, saying that he will make his final decision on it next week. The organization's main Twitter page quoted Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as saying, "Climate change is undeniable".

The United States is the world's second-biggest carbon dioxide emitter behind China.
