Bloomberg says US does not need Washington to fulfil Paris agreement

General Electric's Jeff Immelt tweeted: "Disappointed with today's decision on the Paris Agreement".

Landmark buildings around the world were bathed in green light after President Donald Trump announced that he is withdrawing the us from a landmark, worldwide climate agreement.

In his speech on Thursday announcing the withdrawal, President Trump explained that the Agreement was hindering job growth at home and did little to actually combat global warming.

Souza has since posted four more Obama flavoured posts to the tune of the Woody Guthrie song - "This Land is Your Land".

The comparison shows the striking differences between the 44th and 45th president. "I don't think we're going to change our effort to reduce our emission in the future, either".

Dozens of cities have said they're committed to the Paris climate accord, with at least 86 mayors signing a statement saying they will adopt and uphold the agreement's goals.

UN chief: Climate action 'unstoppable,' nations should stay course
In an open letter this week, the mayors of 61 US cities promised to still meet commitments agreed to under the Paris deal. Scott Pruitt, the EPA administrator, said the question never came up during deliberations over the agreement.

Critics of the move include Travis Rieder, a Johns Hopkins bioethicist who was among five experts to analyze what the withdrawal means for the planet, US business, and the world's poor in an article published by The Conversation.

In December 2015 in Paris, world leaders signed the first global commitment to fight climate change. Paris accord WITHOUT further progress would cut warming by 1C. "You have gone to Washington to hold Donald Trump's hand, now is the time to hold his feet to the fire", Farron said, referring to a brief hand-holding moment during May's trip to the White House in January.

"The bulk of the decisions which drive U.S. climate action in the aggregate are made by cities, states, businesses, and civil society", Bloomberg wrote in a draft letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Several of these same cities have jointly signed onto former Mayor Bloomberg's new plan, which is a coalition of cities, states, and companies who plan on coordinating with the United Nations directly to come up with carbon emissions targets.

"The US can propose anything it wants, but no other country will join them at the negotiating table said veteran climate talks observer Alden Meyer of the Union of Concerned Scientists". "The Paris agreement provides the right global framework for protecting the prosperity and security of future generations, while keeping energy affordable and secure for our citizens and businesses", said a document published on the official Downing Street website.

But, he added, "Measuring with precision, from my perspective, the degree of human contribution is very challenging, but it still begs the question, what do we do about it?"
