Ex-Penn State officials face sentencing in Sandusky scandal

Three former Penn State administrators were sentenced Friday to jail terms for their roles in the Jerry Sandusky child-sex scandal.

Former Penn State President Graham Spanier and former Vice President Gary Schultz will have to spend two months behind bars, while former athletic director Tim Curley will spend three months in jail.

Three former Penn State administrators will serve jail time, perform 200 hours of community service and pay fines of at least $5,000 each for not doing more to intervene when they learned of allegations of child molestation on campus.

Former athletic director Timothy Curley, 63, was sentenced to seven to 23 months incarceration and two years probation. He sentenced Curley to 7 to 23 months, with at least 3 months in jail, and a $5,000 fine; and Schultz to 6 to 23 months, with at least 2 months in jail, and a $5,000 fine.

"These men are good people who made a bad mistake", Boccabella said.

The scandal led to the firing of beloved football coach Joe Paterno shortly after Sandusky's arrest, and he died of cancer two months later at the age of 85.

Angela Liddle, president and CEO of Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance, which provides training for schools, day care centers and others to recognize and report signs of abuse, said the punishments would not erase the damage to victims.

"He was a complete and utter failure as a leader when it mattered the most", Ditka said at Friday's hearing. Spanier never met with McQueary, and heard about the incident through Curley and Schultz.

Russia's Putin ridicules claims of meddling in US vote
Earlier, on Friday Russia had said that despite USA withdrawal it was still likely to back the agreement to fight climate change. Reiterating that relations between India and Russian Federation are strong, the PM said that the whole world will read the St.

"The commonwealth's position is that Curley's testimony in the Spanier trial was created to protect those who deserved to share blame with Curley for the decisions that led to the colossal failure to protect children from Sandusky", prosecutors wrote.

Despite reaching plea agreements with the prosecution and testifying against Spanier in March, both Schultz and Curley maintained essentially the same defense they've stated for years.

Spanier also got the chance to speak to the court after receiving his punishment on Friday.

"It really sickens me to think I might have played a part in children being hurt", Schultz said. Former Penn State vice president Gary Schulz will also serve two months.

In sentencing memos, prosecutors accused Curley in particular of "astonishing" and unbelievable memory lapses on the witness stand.

"I remember nearly every mistake of effect that I have made in my life. and I could testify to them", Boccabella said, before imposing Curley's term.

"I pleaded guilty because I felt like I should have done more", Curley said. She said his inaction "allowed children to be harmed".
