Manchester Bomber Called Mom Before Attack

UK bomber likely didn t act alone

British police investigating the Manchester bombing made a new arrest Friday while continuing to search 12 properties.

The Ariana Grande Manchester concert bomber, Salman Abedi reportedly put a call across to his mother, Samia Tabbal hours before carrying out the attack that killed many people.

The son of Libyan parents who immigrated to Britain in the early 1990s, Abedi has been identified by British authorities as the bomber who attacked the Ariana Grande concert Monday night. Instead, she said, she'll return to Manchester for a benefit concert "to honor and to raise money for the victims and their families".

"Our priorities are to understand the run-up to this awful event and to understand if more people were involved in planning this attack".

Abedi's father and two of his brothers have been taken into custody in connection with the investigation into the bombing. But she urged Britons to remain vigilant and said soldiers would remain at high-profile sites throughout the weekend, and start reducing their presence beginning Tuesday.

Manchester police halted their sharing of investigative information with the USA through most of Thursday until receiving fresh assurance there would be an end to leaks to the media.

In the Libyan-British community in southern Manchester where Salman lived, he was known as a university dropout, an "awkward" young man and an "isolated, dark figure" who talked to few people and travelled back and forth between Britain and Libya. Another brother and Abedi's father have been detained in Libya. Investigators say they have dismantled a large part of his network, but expect to make more arrests.

Details for the benefit concert will be announced in the near future.

As police raids continued Friday, specially-trained firearms officers were being assigned patrol duty on trains for the first time in Britain.

"I have been thinking of my fans, and of you all, nonstop over the past week", she told fans.

Prime Minister Theresa May, who was attending a summit of the Group of Seven in Sicily, offered a blistering critique of Corbyn's position when she was asked about it at a news conference.

May and US President Donald Trump "noted that there had been strong agreement in discussions so far that the G7 should do more collectively on counter terrorism", Downing Street said in a statement.

Some 66 people are still being treated in hospital, including 23 in critical condition, medical officials said.

Amid efforts to soothe jangled nerves, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in London Friday on his first official visit to Britain, meeting with his United Kingdom counterpart Boris Johnson and signing a book of condolence for the Manchester victims.
