Apple announces updated iMac models with new processors, brighter display

This display now offers 500 nits of brightness - which according to the company is 43 percent brighter than the outgoing model. They get Kaby Lake processors, as well as a curious new pricing scheme that lowers the non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro 13-inch version to $1,299, the same price as the 12-inch MacBook. And if you want speed from your storage, you'll be happy to know that all 27-inch models and the top of the line 21.5-inch model comes with a Fusion Drive standard, and all the iMacs now come with Thunderbolt 3. Traditionally and typically, Apple's event only focuses on hardware devices rather than software and iMac updates.

The entry-level 21.5-inch model features an Intel Iris Plus 640 GPU while the 4K model now supports discrete AMD Radeon Pro 550 graphics with up to 4GB of VRAM.

Before you turn them on, you won't notice much difference between this batch of iMacs and the last: with one exception (more on the ultra-powerful iMac Pro here) the new lineup looks exactly the same as the old. Meanwhile, the 27-inch iMac will receive Radeon Pro 570, 575, and 580 GPUs. The new Pro model comes with its own 27-inch 5K display, up to an 18-core Xeon CPU, up to 128GB of EEC RAM and various GPU options that cap out at 22 teraflops of performance. But inside, they've been completely overhauled with up to 3x the graphics power, a big processor boost, and the best and brightest 4K and 5K displays Apple has ever made.

The basic configuration of the iMac Pro will cost $4999. The all-new iMac Pro will come in new Space Grey enclosure.

Semi-finalist Bacsinszky wants birthday to remember
Bacsinszky will be playing in her second Roland Garros semifinal in the last three years at an event she called "magic" for her. But the duo put on a terrific performance to make the day memorable - not least setting a semi-final on their shared birthday.

Apple's new iMac will launch just in time for the holiday season starting at $4,999. The company also detailed a new thermal architecture that is said to give it 80 percent more cooling capacity in the regular iMac design. It also has four USB 3.0 ports, a headphone jack, an SDXC card slot, and a 10 GB Ethernet connector.

Apple's new iMac Pro features a Space Gray variant, a unique design that the tech firm is rare to take.

The crowd at the San Jose Convention Center in California was the first to meet "the fastest and most powerful Mac ever", aimed at content creators and hardcore developers.
