French Open 2017 men's final: Nadal vs

Claycourt king Rafael Nadal marched into his 10th French Open final after demolishing rising Austrian Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-4 6-0 on Court Philippe Chatrier on Friday.

If successful at Roland Garros, Wawrinka also etches his name into record books by becoming the third player to win three or more Grand Slam titles after turning 30 years old.

Yet standing in the way of the Mallorcan from becoming the first player in the professional era to win the same grand slam title 10 times is a highly-destructive Swiss; not 18-times major victor Roger Federer but the barrel-chested Stan Wawrinka. Nadal, a nine-time champion at Roland Garros, will face Wawrinka, the 2015 champ, in Sunday's final.

Roger Federer had his fairytale return to winning ways at a grand slam tournament in January, beating Nadal at the Australian Open final.

Nadal faced one of the hottest players on clay this season as he took on the 23-year-old Thiem.

His task will be even harder in the final, since Nadal hasn't lost a set and conceded a mere 29 games.

Unusually for Wawrinka at a grand slam, he entered the semifinal in nearly ideal form, not dropping a set.

Having arrived in Paris with only four wins since February and unsure even whether he would survive one match, Murray could not be too unhappy with his loss.

Wawrinka may have benefited from good fortune in that contest - Nadal sustained a back injury in the warmup and far from 100% - yet there is no doubting Wawrinka's ability to blow winners past anyone.

Petition against Tory-DUP deal gets 400k signatures
May should "make way" for a government that would be "truly representative of the people of this country". Typically the British government tries to act as an honest broker between Republicans and Unionists .

The clay courts of Roland Garros host the second Grand Slam of the season.

Rain meant that the final was completed on Monday which was tough on Djokovic who was a break up in the fourth set when the match was halted for the night.

Wawrinka was very happy with the way he stayed mentally in the match and felt Murray was not the same opponent he faced 12 months ago.

By contrast, Wawrinka had to come through an epic five-set encounter with world number one Andy Murray, digging deep to produce a fantastic performance in the fifth set. During that same time, Nadal, Federer and Murray have combined to win three.

"But the thing that I am more proud of in my career probably is 2013. So that's the thing that I am more proud", said Nadal.

He has yet to drop a set in the tournament, and this is only the fourth time - after 2007, 2008 and 2010 - that he has reached the summit clash on the back of six successive straight sets victories. It was a very high intensity match. "You know what his game is, you know how well he can play, and you need to accept it".

"I lost my way a little bit", Murray said.

So Wawrinka ran away with the fifth set, taking 16 of the first 21 points and going up 5-0.

He broke Wawrinka when the third seed served for the first set, sending one of his remarkable lobs onto the baseline on break point, which his frustrated opponent smashed long. When you haven't been playing loads over four, four-and-a-half hours, that can catch up to you a little bit. "If I can play long balls, if I can hit hard, if I can do that, well, I think I will be able to control him".

The signs certainly point to Nadal reaching double figures.
