US, Turkey discuss Qatar row, Syria on phone call

Saudi Arabia and other U.S. allies in the region have cited Qatar's alleged support for regional rival Iran and for extremist groups as explanation for their decision. It said Tillerson and Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani "discussed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them as well as the situation and the latest developments" in a crisis between it and Arab countries.

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani thanked Russian Federation for providing assistance to Qatar in overcoming the consequences of the diplomatic row with a number of Arab states.

The crisis escalated further on Friday after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain released a list of 59 Qatari and Doha-based people and entities linked to "terrorism".

"The state of Qatar, in accordance to its firm beliefs and principles, works on avoiding political conflicts with states and governments when dealing with their people", the ministry said in the statement.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has offered Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to mediate the standoff between Qatar and the Saudi-led coalition.

Qatar said it will honor its agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) regarding the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG), despite the fact that the UAE severed diplomatic ties with the Gulf state on Monday.

There are 2,349 Bahrainis and 784 Emiratis in the country.

Kuwait, which has retained ties with Qatar and has often acted as a mediator in regional disputes, said it wanted to resolve the dispute "within the unified Gulf house".

"These drastic measures are already having a brutal effect, splitting children from parents and husbands from wives", said Amnesty after its researchers interviewed dozens of people affected by the crisis.

In one case, the rights group said a Qatari man, who has lived in the UAE with his family for more than 10 years, was refused entry and sent back to Qatar as he tried to return home to Dubai.

There are also students who risk not being able to sit for their final exams, the rights group said.

As well as cutting air, sea and land links with Qatar, the countries ordered its citizens to leave within 14 days.
