More arrested in London attack investigation

While the political debate raged, the investigation into Saturday's attack continued, with police searching an address in Ilford, east London, in the early hours of Tuesday.

One of three jihadis who killed seven people in London last week told Italian police he wanted to be a terrorist when they kept him from travelling to the Middle East a year ago, an Italian prosecutor said on Tuesday.

Youssef Zaghba had been flagged to British intelligence services after telling Italian police "I'm going to be a terrorist" when he was reportedly stopped trying to travel to Syria.

Redouane claimed to be both Libyan and Moroccan and also went by the name "Rachid Elkhdar", police said.

All three were detained on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism offences and have been taken for questioning at a south London police station. Last month, he was spotted urging people in east London not to participate in the June 8 general election.

A year ago the Pakistan-born British citizen appeared in a Channel 4 documentary, "The Jihadis Next Door", in which he is seen unfolding a black flag at a park.

British police said Zaghba had not been a subject of interest for them or the domestic intelligence agency MI5 before he and two others launched their attack.

The victims of attacks were honored at a vigil Monday evening and among them was James McMullan, whose sister Melissa said he worked seven days a week to give his family a better life.

Thomas was walking with his girlfriend Christine Delcros across the bridge on Saturday night while visiting London on holiday.

Italian media reports on Tuesday identified the third attacker as Youssef Zaghba, a Moroccan-Italian.

Also hitting out at the reduced police numbers under the last two governments lead by the Conservatives, the Labour mayor also warned London would be more risky under planned budget cuts, which he said could lead to as many as 12,000 fewer police officers.

According to reports in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Serra, he had been recently working in a restaurant in London.

Security source says Khuram Butt was well known to police.
