Thomas has record nine-under, Harman grabs US Open lead

Harman could become the first lefty to win a U.S. Open.

The Englishman had a chance for a piece of the third-round lead at the U.S. Open as he lined up his third shot on the par-5 final hole: a 50-yard wedge from the bottom of the hill that led to the green.

After carding a 9-under 63 in the third round of the U.S. Open, the lowest round to par in the 117-year history of the tournament, Justin Thomas was asked what he might say to Johnny Miller when he sees him.

Another 63 is perhaps unlikely, because the breeze is finally predicted to pick up on Sunday, perhaps offering a stern test, though the course will probably remain fairly soft.

204: Brian Harman (USA) 67 70 67.

As a result of his outstanding performance, Thomas was 11 under for the tournament and led by two from Charley Hoffman and Tommy Fleetwood, who still had plenty of holes to play.

Thomas has all the momentum, though. He two-putted for birdie, and he rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt on the 17th. However, two shots stood above the rest. First was this absurd putt on the 5th hole, where he lined up facing away from the hole and used the slope to sink a birdie.

Thomas, decked out in shocking fluorescent pink trousers, produced a no less electric performance that featured nine birdies, two bogeys and was capped with a record-smashing eagle at the par-five 18th to complete the best single round in US Open history, in relation to par. Obviously, he made it.

Ruddy: Trump's Considering Whether to Fire Mueller
Sessions was initially supposed to testify before the appropriations subcommittee, but requested to send Rosenstein in his place. Mueller was appointed special counsel after Trump fired former FBI director James Comey , who was heading up the investigation.

On a wild and wonderful day of scoring, Justin Thomas signed for a 63 - a round of nine-under - that constituted the lowest ever round to par in the championship's long and celebrated history.

"If someone shoots 9-under tomorrow in the top few (players), then I will have to shoot 10-under, I guess", Fleetwood said.

"For me, I felt like I've bene playing pretty well all week, and didn't quite have the numbers to show for it".

"Pitchers have good days and bad days, and I took an L [loss] today and come back tomorrow and try to finish this round strong going into next week".

Harman might be the surprise leader after three rounds at the U.S. Open, but there was nothing ordinary about his game.

The course had been softened by rain earlier in the week, and it finally played the way the USGA wanted in the final round. No left-hander has ever won the U.S. Open.

One of the favorites on Sunday will be Fowler. Thanks to a trio of birdies on the back nine in the third round, Fowler's found himself back in the mix after shooting a 73 on Friday.

Harman, who is playing his first major since missing the cut in all four in 2015, fired six birdies and one bogey in a 67 to claim pole position in his bid to become the first left-handed victor of the US Open.

Not to be overlooked was Si Woo Kim, who captured The Players Championship last month. He might be overshadowed in his final-round pairing by Captain America Patrick Reed, but he has the potential to go low and get into the thick of contention even though he's four behind Harman.
