79 now believed to have died in London high-rise fire

Police fear the number of the dead could increase.

He said it had been "incredibly emotional working in there".

Police say at least 58 people are either confirmed or presumed dead, with the figure likely to rise in coming days.

The fire ripped through the high-rise early Wednesday. Metropolitan Police Stuard Cundy said: "Sadly, our work will be ongoing for many, many weeks".

Five people who had been reported missing after the disaster have been found safe and well, he said.

He warned that a full forensic and systematic search will take weeks to complete, adding: "We must also prepare people for the bad reality that some people may not be identified due to the intensity of the fire". We know that there are still bodies of those who died inside the building and we want to return those people to their families as soon as we possibly can.

In this photo released by the Metropolitan Police on Sunday, June 18, 2017, a firefighter stands outside of the Grenfell Tower after fire engulfed the 24-storey building, in London.

While they welcomed the funding, a group of residents who met Mrs May in Downing Street at the weekend said they had not been consulted before the latest announcement, adding that it continued a "tendency to sideline residents' views".

A number of figures have faced criticism for their handling of the disaster, including Theresa May - who failed to meet survivors in the immediate aftermath - and Kensington and Chelsea Council.

Trump lashes out at Russian Federation probe revelation
Rosenstein wrote a memo in May to Trump strongly criticizing FBI Director James Comey's performance. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the lawyer's internal order, which was sent Thursday.

"Within the community, trust in the authorities is falling through the floor and a suspicion of a cover-up is rising", said Lammy, who lost a close friend in the fire.

Speaking to journalists after attending a church service in the shadow of the burned out tower block this morning, Khan said the fire that is believed to have claimed at least 58 lives was a "preventable accident".

Council leader Nicholas Paget-Brown said he understood residents' anger and that the authority itself wanted to know why the fire had started and spread so quickly - but it was too big for one council to handle alone.

Two British officials said Sunday that new exterior cladding used in a renovation of Grenfell Tower may have been banned under United Kingdom building regulations.

But Mark Cripps, a spokesman for Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Mauro, said the Ontario Building Code also stipulates that if "combustible cladding" is used on a building over three storeys, the structure must be equipped with automatic sprinkler protection.

Aluminium composite panels are used to add insulation and to make a building more attractive, and consist of two metal panels sandwiching an inner material such as polyethylene, which was reportedly the case at Grenfell Tower.

Mr Cundy warned that the toll of 79 people could change.

She also defended the fire service's advice for people to stay in their flats during tower block fires, saying that evacuating these blocks for every small fire would cause further injuries and hamper efforts to put out smaller blazes.
