A Number of Casualties After Incident in London 1 Arrested UK Police

London's transport authority said on Twitter that the Seven Sisters road had been closed due to an "emergency services incident".

The force said in a statement: "The driver of the van - a man aged 48 - was found detained by members of public at the scene and then arrested by police in connection with the incident".

"From the window, I started hearing a lot of yelling and screeching, a lot of chaos outside".

Witnesses say a van drove into a crowd on their way home from a prayer at a mosque near Finsbury Park.

One man died at the scene and 10 people were injured.

A man leapt out of the van and stabbed at least one person, the Evening Standard newspaper said, citing witnesses.

"Police have confirmed this is being treated as a potential terrorist attack", May said.

The city's ambulance service said in a statement on Twitter that it had sent "a number of resources" including ambulance crews, paramedics and specialist response teams to the scene.

Just 1 in 5 support Trump's move to fire Comey
Comey testified in a Senate hearing last week that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation". Mark Warner of Virginia, the panel's top Democrat , didn't provide any other details regarding the meeting.

Finsbury Park mosque was once infamous as the stamping ground of hook-handed hate preacher Abu Hamza. The suspect, who is now in custody, reportedly targeted a group of Muslims gathered near a mosque.

Toufik Kacimi, chief executive of the Muslim Welfare House, said the man who was arrested had to be rescued by the imam at the centre to stop him being attacked. Eight injured people were taken to hospitals, and a suspect was arrested.

"I saw so many of them crying, screaming, trying to get the police and the ambulance", she said.

The incident comes at a time of political turmoil in Britain, as Prime Minister Theresa May plunges into divorce talks with the European Union weakened by the loss of her parliamentary majority in a June 8 election.

Harun Khan, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain, tweeted that the van had "intentionally" run over people leaving night prayers.

On March 22, a man drove a rented vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London and stabbed a policeman to death before being shot dead.

Cynthia Vanzella, a witness to the van attack, describes the area as a mixed community, with people from many different countries and cultures.

Manchester was also hit by a severe attack when a bomber killed more than 20 people at an Ariana Grande concert. The mosque, which today operates largely as a community center, rose to worldwide notoriety in the early 2000s, due to its links with Egyptian-born radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri.
