Bill Cosby's Accusers Have Not Lost Hope Despite Mistrial

Bill Cosby walks with his publicist Andrew Wyatt during deliberations in Cosby's sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse

Lawyer Gloria Allred, who represents some of the women who have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, said outside of the courthouse that "round two may be just around the corner, and this time, justice may prevail". Three more have defamation or sexual battery suits pending in California.

Cosby has denied all of the accusations, which have shattered the reputation he built as "America's dad" while starring in the 1980s hit TV series "The Cosby Show".

She filed a police complaint in January 2005 after moving back home to the Toronto area and then sued Cosby in March of that year when the local prosecutor decided not to charge him.

Bill Cosby walked out of court a free man Saturday - not because he was cleared of sexual assault charges - but because a jury decided that it could not reach a verdict on charges that he drugged and molested a woman at his home outside Philadelphia in early 2004.

Almost two weeks after the trial began on June 5, O'Neill accepted a defense motion for a mistrial on Saturday.

Following the mistrial, Cosby's team immediately went on the attack.

As one of the jurors in the first trial said during jury selection in this case so bereft of physical evidence, the saga boils down to a matter of "he said, she said".

The event was also attended by defense ministers from Singapore and Brunai, both acting as observers. Indonesia's military chief, Gen.

"You always find people who just don't pay that much attention to the news or are able to set aside what they've heard", said McAndrews, who successfully prosecuted John E. du Pont, the chemical fortune heir, for murder.

Announcing the decision, Pennsylvania judge Steven O'Neill reminded Mr Cosby that he remains charged and on bail, despite the mistrial.

Under questioning from her lawyer, Cosby acknowledged that he had obtained several prescriptions for quaaludes in the 1970s for the objective of offering the powerful sedative to women he wanted to have sex with. She also thanked the attorneys and family who supported her husband.

He remained stoic as the judge declared a mistrial, while Constand doled out hugs to her mother, prosecutors and some of the other women who say the TV star drugged and abused them. "Cosby is fortunate he has the money to get a proper defense", he said.

"How do I describe the judge?" Constand, who was then an employee of Temple University, Cosby's alma mater, claims the comic gave her drugs that incapacitated her to the degree that she could not stop him from assaulting her. Number one, there are some 60 women who have stepped forward to allege that Bill Cosby sexually assaulted them over the course of some 50 years.

"In my experience, the courts tend to be far more liberal in allowing both sides to introduce a greater volume of evidence than the stricter rules in criminal cases". And a federal judge dismissed a ninth accuser's case, finding her complaint inadequate. "I feel bad for all of you, I really do".

"The fact that they are being repeated does not make them true", said John P. Schmitt, calling the allegations "decade-old" and "discredited". She called the prosecutors heinously and exploitively ambitious. The judge had previously sent the jury from outside Pittsburgh back to deliberate but they were unable to come to a consensus on any of the three counts. " "Probably" does not win criminal trials".
