Megyn Kelly responds to backlash over Alex Jones interview

NBC anchor Megyn Kelly's upcoming interview with "InfoWars" host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has resulted in a firestorm of criticism, notably from the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims.

NEWTOWN - Sandy Hook families are criticizing NBC News host Megyn Kelly over her interview with a conspiracy theorist and radio show host who questions whether the Sandy Hook massacre happened the way it was reported. On Monday, JP Morgan Chase pulled ads from NBC News until the interview airs because of the decision. In the past Jones has suggested that the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut was, among other catastrophic moments in USA history including 9/11, a staged event created by the government to further their clandestine agenda.

In a statement Tuesday, Kelly said she was "disappointed" that she would not be able to attend and support Wednesday night's Sandy Hook promise event, though she said she understood and respected the decision.

The interview has been met with widespread condemnation from those who object to Kelly giving Jones a mainstream platform to express his views. "I hope no parent, no person watches this", she said.

Another Twitter user uploaded an image of one of the children killed in the attack, writing: "Here you go [Megyn Kelly] - her name is Ana Grace Marquez-Greene".

It's been a bit of a rocky start for Kelly at NBC News, who signed the former Fox News host on for a salary somewhere between $15 million and $20 million, according to Business Insider.

The "Alex Jones Show" host and Infowars publisher rallied Monday behind a bid to keep NBC from airing his recent sit-down with Ms. Kelly after excerpts from the interview, scheduled to air Sunday, ignited a firestorm.

Kelly's news magazine is still boosting NBC's Sunday night ratings in the 7 p.m. block, however, which are up 13 percent in the demographic.

She concluded, "I urge you not to broadcast Alex Jones' interview".

She said that Jones has been elevated by praise from President Donald Trump, who has appeared on his show and granted his outlet White House press credentials.

"Our goal in sitting down with him was to shine a light-as journalists are supposed to do-on this influential figure, and yes- to discuss the considerable falsehoods he has promoted with near impunity", she continued.
