Islington's Seven Sisters Road, where the attack took place, is home to at least four mosques, and would have likely been filled with worshipers leaving late-night taraweeh prayers and heading back toward the Finsbury Park Underground Station. A 48-year-old man has been arrested.

London police said in a statement that one death has been confirmed and eight people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

London Mayor Khan said following that attack that there had been a 40-percent increase in racist incidents in the city and a fivefold increase in the number of anti-Muslim incidents.

On March 22, a man drove a rented vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London and stabbed a policeman to death before being shot dead.

Meanwhile the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) said a van "intentionally" ran over worshippers.

They also claim he was laughing and making gestures as he was arrested by police.

"Police say incident has all the "hallmarks" of a terrorist" incident.

The van "turned left with no indication, with no even like suddenly, just deliberately left, and then just hit the people", Amin said.

He said: "The attack unfolded whilst a man was receiving first aid from the public at the scene; sadly, he has died".

Counter-terrorism coordinator Neil Basu said the attack had "all the hallmarks of a terrorism incident".

The Prime Minster later added: "I will chair an emergency meeting later this morning".

They killed eight people before being shot dead by police.

Prime Minister Theresa May described the collision as a "terrible incident", adding: "All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene".

- The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said "the appalling attack on Muslims in Finsbury Park is an attack on us all and on the culture and values of our country". The mosque called it a "callous terrorist attack".

"I tried to stop him (the suspect), some people were hitting him but I said stop him and keep him until the police came".

Britain, especially London, has been on edge over several recent incidents, including last month's terror bombing in Manchester and the recent auto attack and stabbing near London Bridge.

Kozbar complained that the "mainstream media" was unwilling to call the attack a terrorist incident for many hours. One person was killed and 10 were hurt.

Images of the van showed it was rented from Pontyclun Van Hire in Pontyclun, near Cardiff.

Police said the driver had also been taken to hospital and would receive a mental health assessment. His motive is not yet clear but anti-Muslim terrorism is suspected.

Someone in the crowd is heard shouting, "No one touch him! No one! No one!"

Arsenal Football Club's Emirates Stadium is located close by, while further up Seven Sisters Road is the green space of Finsbury Park, which opened in 1869 and gives the area its name.

Several witness accounts indicate that the victims were worshippers leaving a mosque in London's Finsbury Park.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The van swerved towards the people outside the Finsbury Park Mosque in north London just as they began to assist the man, who had collapsed.

- Police said they've not identified any other suspects at the scene nor have any been reported to police.

At least 10 people were injured in what the Muslim Council of Britain said was a deliberate act of Islamophobia and the authorities are investigating as a terror attack.

The attacker struck as the area was busy with worshippers who had been attending Ramadan night prayers at the mosque.

MP Alun Cairns said: "I have this morning spoken to the Chief Constable of South Wales Police, Mr Peter Vaughan".

The incident comes at a time when emotions are high in England, where there have been several terrorist attacks in recent weeks.

The police did not describe the incident as an attack, but they did confirm that investigation of the incident is being carried out by the Counter Terrorism Command.
