Rockstar Games Issues A Statement On The Recent GTAV Modding Crackdown

Kotaku reports that Take-Two hasn't stopped there, either.

Open IV's Russian developers received a cease and desist letter earlier this month, and have made a decision to comply and take down the official download source for the popular toolkit. The reason behind this is that the OpenIV modding tool allows third parties to defeat security features of the software and allow the software to be modified, which is in violation of Take-Two's rights.

Grand Theft Auto V is the latest in a long line of titles that have allowed their users to be creative with a variety of mods in the single-player mode.

It should be clear that though the modders who make use of OpenIV may not be using the tool to impact the experience for other players online, the shutdown of modding tools by Take-Two Interactive does not distinguish between the tools that affect the multiplayer experience and those that do not.

Scalise Upgraded From Critical To Serious Condition
He had with him a piece of paper with doodles and the names of three politicians, according to a person familiar with the case. The American Hospital Association defines "critical" condition as: "Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits".

The creators behind the modding tool have been contemplating taking legal action, but have decided against it as it would probably turn into a protracted legal battle.

According to OpenIV Group, they can go to the court and prove these allegations wrong but, it will take a lot of time and effort and the group will get nothing out of it. The tool has been in use for over a decade and is utilized in offline versions of various Rockstar games, including Max Payne, GTA IV, and GTA V. While some do understand Take-Two's position, most gamers won't.

There has also been a reaction on Steam with users leaving negative reviews of the game, criticising Take-Two and the modding policies it has implemented. On the other hand, the petition to save OpenIV which is single player modding tool has now reached 36,000 signatures. The petition has now garnered over 50,000 signatures.
