USA military wounded in Afghanistan

Last week, a Taliban infiltrator in the Afghan army shot two USA soldiers dead before being killed.

The Resolute Support mission announced on its Twitter feed that seven US service members were wounded but said there were no USA fatalities. The others fought a battle with Afghan special forces that had responded to the attack.

A Taliban spokesman praised the attack but did not claim responsibility.

An Afghan soldier has opened fire on American troops, wounding at least seven of them, before being shot dead in a military base in northern Afghanistan, officials said, in the second so-called "insider attack" in the past week.

According to NATO's Resolute Support website, the June 17 attack took place at Camp Shaheen, the headquarters of the Afghan Army's 209th corps. The convoy returned fire in self-defense, and there were no USA casualties, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation said in a statement.

One of the explosions was so strong it shattered windows up to 2 kilometers from the attack site, said Abdullah Hsrat, spokesman for the provincial governor. The attack Saturday at Camp Shaheen left seven American soldiers wounded, according to officials with the NATO-led mission in the country.

Sahi confirmed that five police officers had been killed and 15 others had been injured, including civilians, Efe news reported.

Authorities say an Afghan solider attacked and wounded US soldiers at a military base on Saturday. The attacker was shot and killed when soldiers returned fire. That was one of the deadliest Taliban attacks on an Afghan army base to date.

ISIS claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a mosque in Kabul on Thursday.

The Pentagon is weighing the possibility of sending thousands more troops to the country to train Afghan forces to break what Lt. Gen. John Nicholson calls a stalemate there.

The attackers, some dressed in Afghan military uniforms, managed to pass through two checkpoints in military vehicles before being stopped, after which they opened fire on the busy compound.

So far this year, six USA troops have been killed by hostile fire in Afghanistan.

Defence Secretary James Mattis is set to decide in coming weeks on whether to grant the request of army Gen John Nicholson, the United States commander in Afghanistan, to deploy between 3,000 and 5,000 additional forces to the country.
