Democrats protest Senate Republican healthcare secrecy

McConnell will need to win the votes of 50 of the 52 GOP senators to push the bill through the Senate.

"They're ashamed of it, plain and simple", Schumer said. Democratic senators will also make floor speeches late Monday on the subject.

McConnell is using closed-door meetings among Republicans to write the bill.

The bill - which would repeal and replace large chunks of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) - passed by a razor-thin margin in an early May vote in the House. The resulting legislation would likely throw millions out of health insurance, he said, while granting "a big fat tax break for the wealthiest among us".

An all-male group of Senate Republicans has worked privately for months to craft its version of the House healthcare bill, which narrowly passed to the upper chamber in May, under increasing pressure from Trump.

Several of the senators being targeted have expressed some concern about the evolving Senate legislation or its process.

As Democrats made a series of motions that McConnell turned aside, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., twice asked the GOP leader to ensure Democrats will have more than 10 hours to study and debate the bill before the vote.

"When this happens, she isn't thinking about the health-care bill in Congress", the narrator says.

And I think what this is, Kelly, is Democrats responding to the pressure they're getting from progressive activists who frankly wanted them to be more aggressive all along and that they've anxious that while Republicans have been moving forward with their health care bill, everyone's attention has been focused elsewhere, namely the Russian Federation investigations.

Six applicants including former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag are in the race for the position of team India coach. Fearing more controversy, Dravid had also excused himself from the U-19 team selection meeting for the England tour.

To appease senators who are anxious about curtailing Medicaid expansion, which plays a key role in providing coverage for addiction treatment, the Senate bill is expected to allocate more money for the opioid crisis, but it's unclear how much, according to The Hill.

The left-leaning lawmakers noted that the Senate has not yet held a single public hearing on the American Health Care Act set for a vote before July 4, which Sanders called an "embarrassing, disastrous process and an embarrassing, disastrous bill".

Asked if 20 hours is sufficient time to debate something that will affect one sixth of the United States economy, Burr said: "I believe it is".

According to Tom, the Republicans have a better chance of getting something done with just ten people. Democrats were more than happy to remind the GOP of that extended 2009 debate, as we wait to see if there will be final action over the next ten days on a GOP health care bill.

"Look, we've been dealing with this issue for seven years", said McConnell to the Times. For his part, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is defending the closed health care talks.

Weeks in the making during private lunch-time meetings, the Senate bill is likely to reflect the House GOP's effort and loosen Obamacare's provisions to protect coverage for pre-existing conditions.

"We are going to bring this up in every possible way", whether it's on the Senate floor, in committee, or with journalists, he said.

Changes to Medicaid spending and the House bill's tax credit structure have led to particularly intense disagreements between conservative and moderate members. He can lose no more than two GOP votes for a bill to pass.
