Lawyer says Trump not under investigation, despite president's tweet otherwise

Sekulow said that Trump, in his tweet, was reacting to a story in the Washington Post, which was the first to report Mueller was examining whether Trump had tried to obstruct the probe by firing FBI Director James Comey in May.

Responding to the multiple news outlets that reported the developments, Trump complained on Twitter, "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Sekulow stressed repeatedly that Trump is not under investigation.

Before Trump had tweeted he was under investigation, Mark Carallo, a spokesman for Trump's personal attorney Marc Kasowitz, did not deny the Post report but questioned the legality of the leaking information about the investigation, calling it " outrageous, inexcusable and illegal". It's hard to think of something more self-incriminating than the president firing the person investigating him for obstruction.

"I'm just one lawyer", Sekulow said.

But Comey has testified under oath that in a private meeting, Trump raised the investigation of fired national security adviser Michael Flynn - part of the larger Russian Federation probe - and said, "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

The Justice Department has said Muller's work at the firm does not disqualify him from leading the investigation. "No, he's not being investigated!"

Sekulow says that Trump hasn't been notified of any investigation. "Nice." And then: "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" But Trump has also said he had chose to fire Comey before Rosenstein wrote a memo recommended him.

In his prepared testimony, Comey said that he had written memos immediately after meetings with the President out of concern that Trump might later lie about the nature of their interactions.

Brexit talks begin with UK in disarray
It is also 82 days after Theresa May sent a letter formally notifying the European Council of Britain's intention to withdraw. The EU insists that phase one of talks will focus only on the terms of withdrawal, and not on a future trade relationship.

The president has directed some of his frustration at Mr Rosenstein and Mr Mueller. "There is no investigation", he added.

Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said failure to respond could result in subpoenas being issued. Mueller was also a partner at the firm, and he resigned from his position after he was chosen as special counsel in the FBI's Russian Federation probe. "Mueller's going to do his job".

Things got testy as the two sparred over Sekulow's contention that they have not been informed about an obstruction investigation, before Cuomo asked why Sekulow can't simply "make a phone call" and find out if Trump is being looked at.

"Trump has a compulsion to counterattack and is very pugnacious", Gingrich said on ABC's This Week. "He wants to raise taxes and kill health care", Trump tweeted in a reference to Democrat Jon Ossoff. Press secretary Sean Spicer denied it was a travel "ban"; Trump tweeted it was a ban. "This is not taking up the president of the United States's day". He said the President used tweets to speak with the public directly.

Rep. Jim Himes, a Democratic member of the House Intelligence committee, says "we are a ways yet from being able to conclude anything" when it comes to his committee's investigation into Russia's actions in the 2016 election.

At the president's urging, he has been on the offensive, casting doubt on Comey's character and raising questions about whether the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director inappropriately disclosed sensitive material. "They're essentially engaging in a scorched-earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor".

Both Coats and Rogers declined before the Senate intelligence committee earlier this month to answer questions about their conversations with Trump, but both said they had never felt urged by Trump to intervene in the Russian Federation probes.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has not yet opened an obstruction of justice case against President Donald Trump, and hasn't even made the decision to do so.

Rubio said "that's not going to happen", when asked whether he's concerned that Trump may be preparing to fire Mueller and Rosenstein. "That's it. Simple explanation", Sekulow told CNN's "State of the Union". Angus King, an independent from ME, stressed that the probe will likely last for a long time. He added: "A lot of people have said, 'When do you think you'll be done?' Maybe the end of the year".
