S. Korea welcomes N. Korea's release of USA detainee

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert has declined to provide details on the circumstance of Warmbier's release or comment on his health condition.

During his 18-month incarceration, the Warmbiers have only heard from Otto once - through a letter on March 2, 2016.

Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch, said, "It's clear that Pyongyang has committed a grave injustice against Otto and his family, and the news that he may be returning with a serious medical problem raises concerns about what happened to him in North Korean custody".

Three other Americans remain imprisoned in North Korea. Such meetings are unusual because the two governments do not have diplomatic relations.

Coincidentally (or not), Dennis Rodman is now in North Korea.

After the Swedish diplomats met with the detained Americans, the North Koreans urgently asked to have a meeting with the U.S.in NY.

NORTH KOREA has released a 22-year-old college student arrested for alleged acts against the tyrannical regime - and he's in a coma.

United States student Otto Warmbier has been freed from jail in North Korea, 13 months after being sentenced to 15 years of hard labour.

"At the direction of the President, the Department of State has secured the release of Otto Warmbier from North Korea", Tillerson said in a statement. He said Warmbier, of Cincinnati, was en route to the U.S.

'We've been praying for him, his parents, and now the people transporting him back home, ' Miller said after Warmbier's release. In a televised trial, he was sentenced in March 2016 to 15 years in prison with hard labor as he publicly confessed to trying to steal a propaganda banner. However, it must do so without making the kind of outlandish concessions that the Obama administration made as a matter of course to secure the release of US citizens held by Iran.

Is Donald Trump Under Investigation for Obstruction of Justice?
It makes Donald Trump only the third sitting American president ever to face a federal probe from the Justice Department. But Trump has also said he had made a decision to fire Comey before Rosenstein wrote a memo recommended him.

Seoul said last month that it will flexibly resume civilian inter-Korean exchanges to an extent that the move does not compromise the global sanctions regime. In a statement confirming Warmbier's homecoming, his parents said they were told their son had been comatose since March 2016, the month he was convicted. "We'll be relieved to have him home and are looking forward to surrounding him with people who love him".

Tillerson said the State Department is continuing to discuss three other detained Americans with North Korea.

Mr. Rodman is a Hall of Fame professional basketball player who formed a personal relationship with the diminutive North Korean dictator Kim several years ago, traveling to North Korea to give basketball demonstrations.

If nothing else, the confluence of these two events highlights the enduring strangeness of North Korea as an actor on the worldwide stage.

As the Americans continued to push for the Swedish diplomats to see all four, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations urgently requested a meeting with Yun in NY, according to Trump administration officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity about the still-secret arrangements.

A senior Trump Administration official told Fox News that Rodman was going to the North "as a private citizen".

She tells reporters, "we are grateful and thankful" for Warmbier's release, but says it is "too soon" to talk about dialogue between the USA and North Korea. Warmbier was evacuated Tuesday.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced Tuesday the release of Otto Warmbier (WORM'-bir), a University of Virginia student.

Rodman received the red-carpet treatment on his four past trips since 2013, which generated a lot of publicity - most of it not good - and did little in terms of diplomacy.

There was no clear sign that the former National Basketball Association bad boy would meet leader Kim Jong Un, as he did on previous visits to the isolated country. Rodman was a cast member on two seasons of Trump's TV reality show "Celebrity Apprentice". He told reporters in Beijing, as he departed for Pyongyang, that he hopes his trip will "open a door" for Trump.
