Spotify Is Now Testing Sponsored Songs

Krales The Verge

Promoted songs can only appear above Spotify's free tiered users, but users can opt out through the "sponsored content" section in their settings. You can see an example of one design for Sponsored Songs below, spotted by Liam Maloney, that shows the track Call Me by NEIKED featured separately above the songs in a playlist. They will have to tap on Your Library on the Spotify app, tap the gear icon on the upper right corner and open the new Sponsored Content Settings.

The Sponsored Songs are starting to show up within playlists followed by users and are created to be in-keeping with the user's listening habits.

This is not the first time that Spotify has made big changes to its free user tier this year. As the streaming music service explained to TechCrunch, Sponsored Songs appear on playlists you follow as instantly playable and savable tracks.

It is not immediately clear how Spotify will charge the labels-whether it will be based on impressions, actions, listens, etc. This way, the Spotify Sponsored Songs won't stick out like sore thumb when users are listening to a specific playlist, especially those that are based on genre. This setting is turned on by default. As this is now a test, it is unclear whether the feature will remain and, if it does, when it will roll out to everyone.

'Universal artists can choose to release new albums on premium only for two weeks, offering subscribers an earlier chance to explore the complete creative work, while the singles are available across Spotify for all our listeners to enjoy, ' he said.

Portugal vs Mexico: VAR not working well - Santos
After an explosive opening period, the second was a much tamer affair as both teams squandered half chances as the tempo dropped. Mexico's all-time top scorer grabbed his 48th worldwide goal from 93 appearances after some awful defending by Portugal .

Are you a Spotify Free user? The streaming service is now looking for ways to increase its revenue after losing an estimated $601 million last year-a huge loss considering its number of users have increased to 140 million.

Spotify didn't say how it will measure the success of the test.

"Show sponsored songs" is an auto-enabled setting which Spotify seems to only be testing with some users.

If Sponsored Songs catch on and get implemented as a standard feature, they could be a serious boon to labels and artists. A Spotify official confirmed the company was testing this feature to TechCrunch on Monday.
