Djokovic heading to Eastbourne for Wimbledon warmup

This is the first time since 2010 that Djokovic will play a grass court event between the French Open and Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic will play at the grass-court tournament in Eastbourne next week in preparation for Wimbledon. Since then he has triumphed three times at the All England Club.

Djokovic has endured a turbulent 12 months since becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four grand slams at the same time following his French title previous year.

He is coming off a surprise straight-set loss to Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

'I am looking forward to fine-tuning my grass court game there ahead of Wimbledon'.

It was the latest in a series of setbacks over the past 12 months for Djokovic, whose form has continued to falter following a surprise third-round loss to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon a year ago.

Tournament director Gavin Fletcher said he was delighted to welcome Djokovic to the Aegon International.

He last played a tournament between the French Open and Wimbledon seven years ago, having crashed out in the quarter-finals in Paris to Jurgen Melzer before losing to Xavier Malisse at Queen's.

The Serbian is a three-time Wimbledon champion and will be joined by Frenchman Gael Monfils and American John Isner who are the No 2 and No 3 seeds respectively.

The world number four has accepted a wild card into the pre-Wimbledon tournament which starts on Sunday.
