Canadian man charged after possible terror attack at MI airport

Travellers and traffic sit outside a terminal at Bishop International Airport Wednesday mornin in Flint Mich

Officials on Wednesday evacuated an airport in Flint, Michigan, where a witness said he saw an officer bleeding from his neck and a knife nearby on the ground.

The incident happened at 9:38 a.m. on Wednesday when a man walked up to a fully-uniformed police officer at a publicly accessible area of the airport, which is the state's third busiest.

"I want to assure all our law enforcement across the nation, any attack on someone who serves and protects our citizens will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law", he said.

"The stabbing incident at the airport remains under FBI led investigation", said the airport in a press release.

No passengers were harmed in the assault, according to the airport which remained close until further notice.

"Right now we are still awaiting more information about the situation at Bishop Airport this morning", said Flint mayor Karen Weaver. As reported by MLive.com, a statement was released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in which they confirmed that they had received knowledge of the attacker's alleged words before he stabbed Neville, but that they were still waiting on confirmation before labeling terrorism as the true motive.

A man has been arrested in the stabbing, which forced officials to evacuate the airport, about 50 miles northwest of Detroit.

Neville underwent surgery after the attack and is stable, Dougovito said.

"Lt. Neville got him to stop stabbing him". Neville is a former Genesee County Sheriff's lieutenant, Shaw said. Authorities say Lt. Neville is in satisfactory condition.

Teens could face hate crime charges in attack on performer
Three juveniles from New Hampshire were arrested and charged with assault and battery, affray, and disorderly conduct. According to Universal Hub, the scene was flocked by multiple police cars and ambulances responding to the attack.

The FBI is investigating the knife attack as an act of terrorism and has the suspect in custody.

The suspect is said to be from Quebec and has a Canadian passport.

Witness Cherie Carpenter told WJRT-TV the suspect had a husky build and a "blank" look on his face.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement that he is proud of the "swift response" by officials from the U.S. and Canada. The post added that passengers were safe and were being told to check for flight delays or cancellations.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said nobody else was believed to have been involved.

A day earlier in Paris, a suspected Islamist on a terror watch list rammed a auto laden with weapons into a police vehicle, and a man drove a van into a group of Muslims near a London mosque.

A government source told CBS News authorities swept the airport with canine teams.

"The cop was on his hands and knees bleeding from his neck", said Ken Brown, who was dropping his daughter off at the airport.

"Preliminary indications are we had no visibility on this individual", he said.
