Qatar demands 'blockade' lifted before Gulf crisis talks

Chief executor of Qatar Airways speaks on new Qatar Airways Business plan

20 de junio de 2017, 00:22Doha, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) Qatar ruled out the negotiation with countries that broke off ties two weeks ago as the diplomatic and economic boycott prevails, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) suggested today that the isolation of Qatar might last years.

Qatar denies it is funding terror groups and said on Monday the ending of the "blockade", which has seen the UAE, Bahrain and Saudi close air, land and sea links to it, was a pre-condition for talks to begin.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani called measures imposed against Qatar by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and others "an act of aggression".

Speaking in an interview with the state-run Anadolu Agency, Zeybekci said that almost 105 cargo planes have carried aid from Turkey to Qatar, after several Gulf countries cut diplomatic ties with Doha earlier this month.

"We do not want to escalate, we want to isolate", state minister for foreign affairs Anwar Gargash told journalists in Paris.

The minister said that while Qatar's rivals were "betting on time", a solution could not be brokered until it abandoned its support for "extremist Islamists".

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says Saudi Arabia and its allies have prepared a list of demands for Qatar, and he emphasized the United States looks forward to the diplomatic dispute between the Gulf states "moving toward a resolution". "For us, there is no clear answer for this", he said.

The foreign minister added that the economic impact on Qatar had so far proved minimal, but added: "We are not claiming we are living in a ideal condition".

"The leaders further discussed the need to de-escalate current tensions, limit the impact on affected families in the region, and continue to address the root causes of terrorism".
