Authorities: Texas mom left 2 kids in hot auto as punishment

Cynthia Marie Randolph 25

Randolph searched throughout the house for the two children, and then went outside, where she discovered them playing inside her vehicle.

She said Friday she left the children in the auto, smoked marijuana and went to sleep. She was booked into the Parker County Jail. Randolph reported the children entered the vehicle on their own and had locked themselves inside.

In Randolph's initial statements, the sheriff's office told NBC 5, she said the two children had been playing and when she couldn't find them in the house, she started searching the property, eventually locating them in the vehicle. They arrived on the scene, located west of Lake Weatherford at approximately 4 p.m. Both children were pronounced deceased shortly after 4:30 p.m. Temperatures in the area had reportedly hit 96 degrees outside the day Randolph's children died inside her auto.

Randolph initially said she was inside her home folding laundry and watching TV while her kids played in an enclosed back porch that was visible from the living room. She said approximately 20 to 30 minutes had passed when she realized she had not heard the children.

Authorities were called to the home at about 4 p.m. when the mother said she had discovered them unresponsive in the vehicle. She claimed they had entered the auto on their own and locked themselves in, then said she broke one of the vehicle windows in an attempt to save the kids.

On Friday, the Texas Rangers and a Dallas-based senior federal special agent conducted a final interview with Randolph, where she implicated herself in her children's deaths.

The Texas mom is now in custody at Park County Jail. The Tarrant County medical examiner's website identified the children as Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez. Her bond has not been set. It is uncertain if she has an attorney representing her.

Authorities say a Texas woman told investigators that she left her 2-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son in the hot auto where they died last month to teach the girl a lesson, and that they didn't lock themselves in, as she initially said. She took a nap lasting two to three hours, before she went back outside to check on her children.
