The Senate's Unaffordable Care Act

The Senate version delays cuts to the Medicaid program and maintains tax credits included in Obama's signature Affordable Care Act to help lower income Americans purchase health insurance for at least two years.

Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., was one of 13 Republican senators charged with helping to prepare the draft of the bill, which is dubbed the Better Care Reconciliation Act.

Critics on both sides of the aisle said the bill, which was drafted behind closed doors by a small group of Senate leaders and committee staffers, has been shrouded in secrecy.

Asked several times at the Thursday briefing at the White House, Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she had nothing more to add to Trump's tweet.

Sens. Paul Ryan of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Lee of Utah and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin all said they would not support the current bill after its long-awaited reveal. But most Americans say the program - which Republicans call a "broken system" - is working well on the national level and within their states.

Sen. Bernie Sanders will spend his weekend pressuring Republican colleagues in the Senate to vote against the Republican health care bill as Republicans hope to bring it to a vote next week.

"I am very supportive of the Senate #HealthcareBill".

Sen. Susan Collins of ME reiterated her opposition to language blocking federal money for Planned Parenthood, which many Republicans oppose because it provides abortions. The bill, they say, will have devastating consequences for NY.

As members left a meeting about the bill, many said they were encouraged by their first impressions of the text but were hesitant to say if it would clear the 50 vote threshold for passage. The Senate bill would repeal the tax this year. Hanel suggests that could eventually leave a large pot of money to provide subsidies for insurance companies to cover really expensive customers. "And that's why I need to review the text", said Sen. Tim Scott of SC.

Nonetheless, allies say if anyone can get the job done, it's McConnell. Trump said getting approval would require traveling a "very, very narrow path" but that "But I think we're going to get there".

If you're Cassidy, the worst position is to be a senator whose opposition to the bill killed the repeal-Obamacare effort. When the CBO releases its projections for the Senate bill next week, the projected Medicaid impacts may well be even worse.

This is similar to deals struck with the Spanish taxman by fellow Argentinians Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi a year ago . All the cases involve income from image rights on endorsement side deals made by players, not salaries paid by clubs.

McConnell also tried to prevent the 2013 government shutdown, but was overridden by tea party forces in the House.

The 142-page bill would create a new system of federal tax credits to help people buy health insurance, while offering states the ability to drop numerous benefits required by the Affordable Care Act, like maternity care, emergency services and mental health treatment.

"Whatever insurers have been doing to lobby paid off", said Larry Levitt a senior vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Opponents of the GOP bill are calling on constituents to register disapproval with their Republican lawmakers as well, by calling and visiting offices, and holding organized protests like the one outside Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's office Thursday. That's slower than the House bill does.

Senate GOP bill: Also provides a pathway for states to seek benefit waivers.

D-Cleveland, who released a statement Thursday blasting the Senate version of a highly criticized version passed by House Republicans earlier this year.

The Senate bill would give states more power to run their health care systems outside of ACA regulations, but the authority to do so would come under an existing provision of the health law, "Section 1332", which allows states to waive key provisions of the law.

They will frame the debate unless someone in the Senate Republican caucus speaks up for people with disabilities, people in nursing homes, the self-employed and those with chronic diseases whose access to health coverage is at risk.

"If enacted, this legislation will turn back the clock on women's health".

"This bill has nothing to do with health care", Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the runner-up for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, said in a statement.

The American Public Health Association attacked the bill's closed-door shaping as "legislative malpractice".
