University of Missouri revokes Cosby's honorary degree

The University is considering whether to revoke an honorary degree it granted to Bill Cosby.

The University of Missouri, as well as at least 25 other colleges and universities, are planning to remove the honorary degrees awarded to comedian and alleged sex-offender Bill Cosby.

The system's Board of Curators will vote Friday on Choi's recommendation.

University system President Mun Choi wants to use more open-source learning material written by experts, vetted by their peers and posted for free downloading.

The university says, "honorary degrees throughout the University of Missouri System are reserved for those who have ascended to the pinnacle of their fields while conducting themselves consistent with the university's core values".

The University of Missouri is not alone in their decision.

The Columbia Missourian reports (http://bit.ly/2srx6OP ) university's faculty council recommended in 2015 that the curators revoke the degree. He urged revocation, citing allegations from several women that Cosby sexually assaulted them. After a six-day trial, a Pennsylvania judge declared a mistrial last week after the jury said it was deadlocked.
