10 pilgrims from Punjab killed in Himachal accident

At least 10 pilgrims were killed and 30 others injured on Thursday when a tourist bus fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh.

Superintendent of police Sanjeev Gandhi and deputy commissioner CP Verma reached the accident site.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Dehra and Tanda.

The mishap had occurred at around 6 pm as the bus fell 300 metres down the road into the river, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Ashish Shrivastava had informed.

More than 80 pilgrims were on their way to the popular Hindu shrine Jwalamukhi when their bus met with an accident near Dhaliara town, some 65 km from district headquarter Dharamsala.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Shiv Kumar (40), Charan Kaur (53) and Santosh (60).

State Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has expressed grief over the incident and assured all help to the victims even as a probe has been ordered into the accident. After paying obeisance at the temple, the vehicle left for Jawalji shrine from Chintpurni at 9.30am.
