Arab states don't seek 'regime change' in Qatar: UAE

A top United Arab Emirates official says the Arab countries isolating Qatar do not seek to force out the country's leadership but are willing to cut ties with it if it does not agree to their demands.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt want Doha to comply with the demands in return for an end to the three-week-old diplomatic and trade blockade of Qatar. ".This approach of 13 demands is against global law because you can not attack or intervene in the sovereignty of a country."Bahrain's foreign minister said on Sunday that outside interference would not solve the problem."It is in the interest of these powers to respect the existing regional order which is capable of solving any issue that may arise", Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa said in a message on Twitter, without naming Turkey".

On June 7, Turkey's parliament fast-tracked legislation to allow troops to be deployed to a military base in Qatar, two days after the Saudi-led countries cut ties with Doha in the worst diplomatic crisis in the region in years.

Mr Tillerson had previously insisted any demands be "reasonable and actionable". Tillerson also reiterated that the common goal of the USA, the Gulf States and Qatar is "stopping terrorism and countering extremism" and added that "each country involved has something to contribute to that effort".

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Egypt and several other nations abruptly announced that they were severing diplomatic ties and transportation links with Qatar, accusing it of financing terrorism and interfering in the internal affairs of other states.

Tillerson also urged all sides to "lower" their rhetoric to ease tensions, and said that the USA would stay in "close contact" with all parties and support Kuwait in its mediation efforts.

Gargash said that if Qatar fails to comply within the 10-day timeline set out in the ultimatum, it will be isolated.

Turkey shipped suppliers and food via cargo planes to Qatar after its neighbors closed down air, land and sea routes.

The United Arab Emirates has said the list was meant to be confidential, and it has accused Qatar of leaking it to the press in a sign of bad faith.

Amir Handjani, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, told Al Jazeera that the demands are a "non-starter". The country's isolation is about "behavioral change" rather than regime change, he said at a press conference in Dubai.

After the demands were made on Friday, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the dispute was "a family issue" that the countries should work out together, BBC reports.

Sean Spicer, the United States press secretary, said the U.S. will not intervene unless it is "asked to join. and facilitate" discussions between the countries involved.
