Beyonce wins big at BET Awards

BET president Debra L. Lee honored Chance the Rapper with the Humanitarian Award, noting that "he's not afraid to speak out and speak up for those who can't speak for themselves". Yes, tonight The Root is at the BET Awards trying not to be awkward!

Of course, people quickly noticed-some even called him out for "disrespecting" Blige while others simply took the opportunity to birth a new meme.

Yeah, sure there are other explanations for the two seconds of footage, like perhaps he was deep in contemplation over Mary J. Blige's greatness or maybe just realised he didn't feed his pet goldfish this morning, IDK. She'll probably win again this year, but she will, at least, have some competition from Missy Elliott, Cardi B and Remy Ma.

When it was announced that she won the viewer's choice award, Chloe x Halle - the young duo signed to Beyonce - recited a speech given to them from the pop star.

The event, which is being hosted by Leslie Jones, will be live streamed on BET.com and it will also be available on YouTube.

The artist opened up the show with "Perm". "Steve, no matter where you go in life, I know you're gonna find success because you've got too much soul and too much passion".

Coming into the evening, everyone knew Chance the Rapper was set to receive the Humanitarian Award at the 2017 BET Awards, a tremendous honor and an unprecedented one for someone his age.
