DSP Ayub Pandith's lynching in Srinagar: Three more arrested, SP shunted out

However, police said two of the accused have been arrested and third has been identified.

A grim Director General of Police S.P. Vaid told reporters: "An officer being lynched by the very people he had gone to protect proves we have reached a stage where very little difference is left between humanity and barbarism". Sajad Khaliq Bhat has been ordered to report to the state police headquarters.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a top separatist leader and Kashmir's chief cleric who was present in the main mosque at the time of the officer's lynching, condemned the incident in a tweet on Friday as a "brutal act". "I reached the mosque at 12.15 a.m., while the incident had happened before that", he said in a press release. "They killed an innocent, a Tahjud Guzar (one who prays during the nights)", said one of the sisters-in-law of the slain officer.

He said the killing of deputy superintendent of police Mohammad Ayub Pandith outside the Jamia Masjid in the downtown area of the city was height of barbarism.

Even senior police officers were unaware that one of the officers deployed at Jamia Masjid was lynched by an irate mob.

Some reports said that he allegedly pulled out his pistol and fired shots that injured three people.

Robinson: Health care bill represents historic GOP heist
McCaskill met with Kansas City healthcare leaders Saturday to discuss how the passing of the bill would affect Missourians. A comparative moderate, Heller supports the expansion of Medicare that was included in the Affordable Care Act.

The police officer identified as Mohammed Ayoub Pandit was on duty when the mob attacked him, a police spokesman said. He was caught by an angry mob outside and beaten to death.

Police later dispersed the crowd by firing into the air and recovered Pandith's battered body lying nearby.

The advisory has come from Kashmir Police Chief Muneer Khan and it has also been sent to army, and other paramilitary forces which are part of Kashmir's security grid.

Witnesses said worshippers confronted Pandith, who was not wearing a uniform, as he took pictures with his mobile phone outside the Jamia (Grand) Mosque in Srinagar during the festival of Lailat-ul-Qadr, when Muslims hold late-night prayers. And it is the seventh death of a J&K Police man over the past week.

Earlier, in April the police had issued an advisory to its personnel to avoid visiting their hometowns "for the next few months", following incidents of attacks by militants on their residences and family members.
